Army and navy

I love my new military-style parka!! I bought it about a month ago at Costa Blanca, but the warm weather we've been having until very recently didn't inspire me to wear it until now.

The cute striped dress I've paired it with is one of my finds from Winners...the fabric is an unusual parachute silk; and the retro "nautical" feel is a little outside the box for me, but sometimes it's fun to wear a piece that's sort of unexpected, right?!

These amazing boots are definitely favourites...they have a bit of that army footwear look (with a serious heel!) and give everything I style them with some edge.

The finishing touch?! My rhinestone scull and crossbones, for a dash of "pirate!!"

Faux fur and Silver

I love my skinnies as much as the next girl, but there's something to be said for a really awesome bootcut jean!!

This pair is by Silver, and I fell head-over-heels for the way the side seam treatment creates an almost "tuxedo stripe" effect...and look at the cute little slit in the hem!!

The chillier weather had me pulling out my cozy faux fur vest; and since blue and green is one of my favourite colour combinations, I topped off my tank with a fabulous turquoise Lucky Brand necklace.

The bag?? Yup...it's my current go-to, from House of Harlow 1960!!

The cowgirl way

I just read that model Erin Wasson is designing a line of cowboy boots...I guess that means that they are officially "cool" again!!

In honour of the occasion, I decided to break out my own amazing pair; they've been languishing in the back of my closet for a while, just waiting to show off their gorgeous colour and texture!!

And I've had this white DKNYJeans skirt positively forever...so much so that the linen-blend fabric is starting to develop some small holes. I don't care...I'm wearing it anyway!!

Paisley pop!

What could be prettier than a paisley print dress with a "pop" of fuchsia?!

I tend to prefer looks with a slightly bohemian vibe over the summer months, and since I'm determined to stretch the season out for as long as possible, this fit the bill perfectly!! It's floaty and sheer, and the colours actually make the transition to autumn really nicely, too!!

For now I've paired it with my super-comfortable, brown suede Nine West heels...but when the weather turns chillier, it will look just as fabulous with a pair of tall boots.

And speaking of "pop"...I couldn't resist putting this green crystal necklace into the mix (it was a gift from my husband's mom, who travels all over the world and always brings home some bling for me!)

The boyfriend thing

Even though I own a pair, I'm going to be honest and admit that I'm still really on the fence about "boyfriend" jeans.

I'm not sure that they are particularly flattering most of the time...but when I see them put together with some really feminine pieces, like this floaty camisole and these BGBGeneration pumps, I start thinking wow - they actually do look quite cute!!

Of course, the other option is to go completely in a different direction and do all-out "tomboy", but I rarely feel comfortable with that; I'm just too much of a girly-girl!!

(But that's just me...plenty of women totally rock a menswear inspired look!!)

It started with Selma

This was one of those mornings when what I thought I was going to wear for the day ended up morphing into a completely different look.

I had a photo of Selma Blair in mind that I recalled seeing a number of years ago, in which she wore a narrow black midi skirt with a sleek black little spaghetti-strap tank...very minimalist; and perfect, I felt, for an end-of-summer afternoon.

But my own black tank wasn't a good match for the skirt (isn't it crazy how many shades of black there are?!) and the weather didn't seem like it was going to play along either, so I decided to tweak my outfit idea just a little by wearing a top with a bit more coverage (and a little shimmer, too!)

And because my army-green BKL sleeveless shirt just happened to be hanging on my closet door, I thought I'd add that as a vest. Then a pendant necklace, the booties, and the cowhide bag...and done!

As you can see, in the end, the sun did come out after all!!

Winners edge

Because my job requires a uniform, "career wear" is pretty much non-existent in my closet. Instead, I'm all about off-duty looks!! Sometimes that means jeans and a tank top...but other times, I like to dress it up a little (or even a lot!!)

Today I decided I did want to take it up just a notch, so I chose a little wool-blend skirt (after all, autumn is in the air, even if it doesn't feel much like it yet!) to go with my striped tank; and a pair of Jessica Simpson boots that have a cool, "seventies" vibe.

After my chai latte and a browse around Chapters, I couldn't resist popping into Winners...definitely one of my favourite stores!! It may not be ideal when you're shopping for a specific piece, but it's great if you're up for a bit of a treasure hunt.

I have to say that I'm actually not a big fan of hoodies...they usually have way too much of an "athletic" feel for my taste (so not me!). But I kind of couldn't resist this one's "multi-media" look with the contrasting sleeves, and that great raw hem.

I'm not sure it's a keeper yet...but I have 30 days to think about it!!

About the pudding!

Style is my...pudding???

The "style" part is pretty self-explanatory, but the "pudding" might be a little...curious??

For a large part of the world's English-speaking population, "pudding" is synonymous with "dessert;" in other words, a sweet indulgence.  And I can't think of a better way to describe my love affair with personal style!!

My nine-to-five job does provide its share of fulfilment (I work at a veterinary clinic,) but it's definitely lacking when it comes to anything fashion related--I wear scrubs, after all!!  So thank goodness for the weekends...my time to indulge my passion for clothes and makeup and jewellery!! (Hair maybe not so much, but I'm lucky enough to have someone amazing to look after that for me!!)

Shopping is definitely a hobby in my books, and so is creating a look for going shopping!!  I'm sure at least some of you can relate...spending an hour to put together my "look" for the day...even lying in bed the night before, mentally pulling items from my closet!!

I'm a dedicated cosmetics fan as well (I have my diploma in Makeup Artistry;) and in the jewellery department, I have a whole box full of necklaces, bracelets and earrings that I've made...some to be given as gifts; and some, maybe one day, to sell.

But it's truly my love of "the whole package" that has inspired me to start a photo diary of my styling adventures.  My motto is "just because you're wearing clothes, it doesn't mean you're dressed!!"  There are so many great options out there, for every budget!!  I know I don't always get it completely "right," but when I do...I'm walking on clouds for the rest of the day.

Let's all enjoy some "pudding!!"
