Highland fling

I can't seem to get excited about the current "pajama dressing" trend; to me, it takes the whole "just rolled out of bed" look way too literally. But nightgown dressing, on the other hand...!!

This flannel tartan maxi dress (Denim&Supply Ralph Lauren) is - of course - not really a nightgown; but couldn't you see it for a cozy, romantic night in front of a wood-burning fire?

It's much too pretty to be worn only behind closed doors, though; so I've added a cropped shawl-collar cardigan (from Le Chateau) for a bit of warmth on a chilly afternoon, and my copper tassel necklace for some understated bling.

My final, rockerish, touch? I'm wearing my awesome, green leather toque!!

Tying one on

You know how there are exceptions to every rule?!

If you've been with me since my very first photo post ("Winners edge") you may recall that I'm not usually a fan of hoodies.

Well here's the exception!! With its deep V-neck, tunic length, and bell sleeves, this is definitely not your average hoodie; in fact, I think it actually has a bit of a "peasant/hippie" vibe to it, which is why I've styled it with my Silver bootcut jeans and this gauzy, butterfly-motif scarf.

Pearl embellished hoop earrings and a layered necklace are the finishing touches for this casual, yet still "made an effort," look!!

Leopard love

I initially had a rather different look in mind for the debut of this cute animal print skirt!!

But when I went to the front closet to grab a jacket, I saw my combat boots...and decided I had to work them into the picture somehow. So I vetoed the jacket for my chunky wool sweater (yes, you've seen it before in my "Grunge glam" post!); and added this leather rose "necklace" - it's actually a belt! - for a girly touch.

Am I crazy to like how it turned out?!

Fluorescence

Is it just me, or do our autumn colours positively glow this year?!

I thought I would response in kind by wearing my chartreuse, faux leather t-shirt today...LOVE this colour!! I don't wear a lot of really bright shades, but this one gets me every time. It's just so crisp and fresh; a perfect punch-up for an otherwise neutral palette.

And these black and grey floral Mavi jeans are going to be a wardrobe staple for me over the coming months...I can already tell!! This time I've dressed them up with my black Michael Michael Kors heels, but I'm also envisioning them with my Dayton biker boots. I will keep you posted!!

Untailored

This is the antithesis of a tailored look...breezy dress (from Jacob), chunky wool sweater - and yes - my slouchy Aldo booties again!!

I'm not a big fan of restrictive clothing; you won't often see me in anything that doesn't have a fair bit of give to it. A soft leather jacket and a T-shirt? Okay. Stretchy denim jeans? I'm doing fine. But a really fitted blazer or blouse? Not unless it's a jersey or a knit of some sort; or sleeveless at the very least.

It's probably a good thing that I'm not a typical "corporate" girl!!

Retro lady (a bonus post!)

You may have seen this vintage coat before, but the dress is a brand new find!!

As is so often the case, I discovered this platinum-coloured treasure at my favourite shopping destination...Winners!! It's a super soft, laser-cut leather; and I fell in love with the tone-on-tone look it creates with my newly blonde hair!!

I've been doing boots so often lately that I decided to go ladylike with my BCBGeneration pumps and faux reptile clutch, then added an unexpected medallion necklace for a touch of boho.

Ta da!! My finished look for dinner at a friend's place!!

Plaid and pink

I forced myself a little out of my comfort zone today!

I've actually been wanting to try the plaid shirt trend for quite a while now. The problem was that most of the shirts I saw were variations of a red theme; and even though I like the colour red, I don't really like to wear it (never say never though!!)

So when I saw this shirt at H&M - and on sale for $15 no less! - I told myself that the time was now. The maroon and yellow combination is more my style, and the plaid is a cute addition to my cool weather wardrobe.

My lipcolour here is another big change for me!! I used to be a real lipstick girl, but for the past few years I've been favouring a nude, shimmery look. However, this Sephora Rouge Shine in No.18 caught my eye when I was at the mall last week, so I decided to treat myself. I'm not ready to give up my go-to glosses just yet...but I think this bright pink is a very pretty change!!

Attitude

I think sometimes we forget that a huge part of personal style is having the right attitude.

Whenever I look at photos posted by Ari Seth Cohen on "Advanced Style" (one of my favourite sites - if you're not familiar with it, you can check it out for yourself by clicking on it in my blog roll!) I see proof that style is only a little bit of what you wear...there is actually a whole lot of how you wear it going on, as well!!

These ladies (and gentlemen, too!) indulge in a freedom of expression that amazes me over and over again. They remind me that personal style is not about age, or conventional ideas of beauty, or expensive clothes; but about squeezing everything you can out of life, and having as much fun as possible doing it!!

I'm not there yet, but I hope one day to reach this same level of confidence; right now, I still need the help of a new dress (c/o Winners!), a scrumptious bag...and maybe some really awesome sunglasses!!
