Crutches

Well, here you go folks...proof that you just can't keep a dedicated blogger down!!

I'm discovering that one of the biggest hurdles to overcome when there's a cast on your foot, is the fact that wardrobe choices are automatically cut in half.  Not a single pair of my jeans will fit over it; ditto any tights or leggings.  And a curve-hugging dress or skirt is probably an(other) accident waiting to happen...!!

So I can choose between shorts, and anything that has a bit of a fuller skirt; all with bare legs, of course.  Thank goodness that I don't seem to be feeling the cold very much lately!!

Footwear is another challenge...I don't own a heck of a lot of flat-ish shoes or boots; and wearing even one heel seems - at this particular point - to be tempting fate a little more than I really care to right about now!!  Hence my cowboy boot, even though I thought I'd be bidding boots of all sorts "adieu" for the time being.  It appears that there may be some shoe-shopping in my near future (at Aldo, perhaps?!)

I'm really happy with how this look "a la" crutches turned out; here's hoping I can keep up the momentum!!

Bye bye boots!

I can't believe that this is my final look prior to breaking my foot...it's going to be an interesting few weeks coming up!!

I'll be honest when I say that I still don't exactly know how I'm going to manage to style and photograph outfits with a cast on my leg.  Do I try to hide it??  Do I turn it into some sort of quirky accessory??  If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears!!  (Dawn Lucy of "Fashion Should Be Fun" thought bedazzling it might be an option!!)

Accidents happen every day...so my initial reaction to virtually shut down my blog during my recovery now seems like a pitiful surrender; people deal with handicaps that are so much more challenging than my (temporary) situation all the time.  We still have to get dressed and face the world though, right?!

Maybe I should change the sub-title of my blog to "what I wear when I'm in a cast!!"

P.S.  These white skinnies by Denim & Supply are the newest addition to my jeans wardrobe...I had been looking for a pair like this for what seems like forever!!  I'm so glad I waited until the perfect ones came along; they didn't even need to be hemmed!!

B.B.F. (not B.F.F.!)

Nope, it really isn't a typo...B.B.F. means "Before Broken Foot!!"

Obviously, my husband and I photographed today's look prior to my little "trip" (ha! ha!) - when I still had two good legs to stand on!!

I took a bit of a risk with the colours of the skirt and top here; and I love how the combination of maroon and cognac turned out!!  I'm still a huge fan of neutrals (that will probably never change!) but I've definitely been inspired lately by some of my blogger friends and their love of shades other than basic black, white, and beige:  Conny of "A Hemad und a Hos" loves burgundy; Anett of "Bella Pummarola" has been rocking green lately; and Catherine over at "Not Dressed As Lamb" is fearless with the entire rainbow!!

Next to all the fun I have coming up with interesting outfits every week to share with you, becoming a part of the "personal style" blogosphere - and connecting with such lovely, fashion-savy ladies! - has been a more amazing experience than I could ever have imagined.  In fact, I'm determined not disappoint my own faithful followers...and want to assure you that I'm going to try my very best to work around my current, less-than-stylish accessory!!

Please stay tuned!!

Pink shoe casualty

Well, dear readers...this is certainly not a post that I had planned to be writing today!

With the sun shining and my toes freshly pedicured, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to showcase another pair of the shoes that I brought home with me from Toronto!!  I had styled these gorgeous, fuchsia Jessica Simpson pumps with my snake-print skinnies; I was wearing the same jeans the day my mom and I went shoe-shopping together, and she loved the combination of hot pink and animal print as much as I did!!

So - my husband and I were on our way back from an afternoon Starbucks date, and stopped just a few blocks from home for my outfit photo shoot...

And I tripped.

And fell.

And broke my right foot in four places.

Needless to say, I will not be showing off any new shoes - or probably outfits, for that matter! - for the next four to six weeks; and I'm not ashamed to tell you that I am absolutely heartbroken.  I do have two posts in the works for looks that my hubby and I photographed pre-accident...but there is definitely going to be a bit of a "dry spell" coming up!!

Please, bear with me during my recovery; I will try to bring something of interest for you to enjoy in the interim (no better time to experiment, right?!)...and I will most definitely continue to "visit" all of you!!

Hip-hopping

It wasn't until I started sorting through these photos that I realized this look has a bit of a "hip-hop" feel to it...minus, perhaps, the baseball hat (the only kind of hat that I really don't like) and some sneakers (which I'm admittedly still on the fence about!!)

I actually kind of need to wear heels when I do a tomboyish look like this; otherwise, I start worrying that the scales tip a little too far towards "masculine."  My open-toed, leopard-print Guess shoes couldn't be further from high-tops...and I'm perfectly fine with that!!

How about these fun, adjustable cargo pants?!  I found them at Jacob several seasons ago; and I love how I can style them longer or shorter on a whim, with just a tug on those ankle laces!!

Now I'd like to know...have you ever put together an outfit, and then been surprised by the "feel" of the finished look??  Do tell!!

A scarab, a skull, and a pretty dress!

Finally...an opportunity for this blue and white number to come out to play!!

If you are one of my regular readers, you will recall me mentioning - on more than one occasion! - how much I love shopping at Winners; and this BB Dakota dress is a perfect example of why!!  I purchased it several months ago (without any particular event in mind) because I simply could not pass up a pretty, genuine silk party frock for a measly $15!!

I thought it might be lovely for a wedding or a birthday celebration...but as it happens, I decided to debut it for my boss's annual "ceilidh;" figuring that the flirty skirt would be just perfect for a little dancing!!  The open, square neckline seemed too obvious for a necklace; so I experimented with my beetle brooch and decided on this not-so-obvious placement instead!!

And the clutch?!  It's fuschia suede and it has a skull motif...in other words, it's perfect, right?!

Blue jeans baby

Here we go again...jeans, booties, and a cozy sweater!!

As I've mentioned before, this is probably as close as I get to a "uniform" when I'm not working; I'll mix up the ingredients a little, but the recipe stays pretty much the same...you can see a variation of this in my post "The real me!!"

And I finally found another perfect little beanie!! More and more, I'm realizing that I'm not a make-do kind of girl; if I add something to my wardrobe wish-list, I'll wait and wait for exactly what I want rather than being satisfied with something that's just "close enough."  This hat (Winners came through for me yet again!) is a light-weight jersey that's going to transition well into the warmer months...and it converts into a headband, too!!

Final bonus??  The blue pattern is such a cute complement to jeans, don't you think?!
