Turning the page

A new year always feels a bit like a crisp new notebook, don't you think??  The pages are empty - fresh and clean - but sooo full of the promise!!

I'm not really a "resolutions" kind of girl...but at the same time, today it's hard not to think about plans for the coming twelve months.  What will I do differently??  Do I have any goals I'd like to achieve??  Where, figuratively at least, would I like to be a year from now??

One thing is for sure; this blog of mine is definitely something I'm still seeing in my future.  What started as a creative way of journalling my outfit and shopping adventures has grown into much, much more...an ongoing photography project that my husband and I can share; an outlet for my love of writing; and an unexpectedly wonderful way of connecting with so many fabulous fellow fashionistas!!

Adieu 2014...you certainly presented some challenges.  And welcome 2015;  I'm really looking forward to filling those empty pages!!  Have a Happy New Year, dear readers!!

Breaking a sweat

I truly was in a sweat when I headed to the checkout counter with these pants, dear readers...what was I doing with a pair of joggers in my hands?!

This style was "not for me" for the longest time; but as it so often happens with matters of fashion, they'd slowly been growing more and more appealing.  I'll admit to trying on a random pair over the past few months; but the silhouette and gathered waistband are definitely a bit tricky...and until now, I hadn't found any that were even remotely flattering.

Now "flattering" is a relative term here; after all, this kind of slouchy fit doesn't do much to enhance the figure.  But the darker panel of fabric on each side narrows them just a little visually...and together with the piping detail, it gives them almost a tuxedo pant feel, don't you think??

And the clincher??  I found them at Forever 21 for a grand total of $23.80...that's less than a pair of real sweatpants at an athletics store!!  Now that's the way to make a super-trendy look your own!!

(P.S. I checked online...but unfortunately, these particular joggers don't seem to be available anymore. You never know, though; you might still be able to find them at your local Forever 21!!)

To "box"...or not!

So there we go...another Christmas is over and done.

Unless you happen to follow German tradition like I do; in which case, "Boxing Day" is actually considered to be a second Christmas Day.  Isn't that a wonderful custom?!  I'm totally into the idea of extending the fun and festivities for a whole other twenty-four hours!!

Of course, here in Canada - and probably most of the world - it's back to business for the majority of those retail shops that were closed yesterday.  And while I'm not sure if I'm going to be braving our local mall today (Boxing Day mayhem might be a bit much even for this confirmed shopper!) I am looking forward to indulging in my favourite chai latte from Starbucks once again!!

And what about you, dear readers??  Do you continue your Christmas celebrations on Boxing Day as well...or are you more interested in taking advantage of all those special post-holiday sales??  Please leave me a note; I'd love to know!!

So this is Christmas

I sure hope you've been good girls (and boys!) dear readers, because this is it...Santa is on his way today!!

If you've been following along on my blog, then you know that until very recently, my husband and I haven't been feeling a lot of holiday cheer...but since our little ferret Badger seems to be holding his own right now, we're ready to do a bit of celebrating!!

This black and grey floral-print frock was a last-minute choice for my annual work Christmas party; I found it at Winners just a few hours beforehand!!  Not that I'd actually been looking for a new holiday outfit - I had another dress waiting for me at home - but the amazing price (trust me, I practically stole it!) and flattering fit made it impossible to pass up.  And that gorgeous, bohemian necklace??  An early gift from Stella & Dot...care of my personal Mr. Claus!!  ;)

And now I'd like to wish each and every one of you the very merriest of Christmases; have a wonderful day tomorrow...and may all your holiday dreams come true!!

Pumped for Christmas!

I absolutely love putting together outfits and documenting them for my blog, but I have to admit...at this time of year, the weather can be a real challenge when it comes to taking photos!!

If it isn't contending with the brutally short days (seriously, though - we have about eight fewer hours of daylight right now than we have during the height of the summer!) it's trying to find cover from the rain!! But I'm doing my best not to complain too much...at least we don't have any snow right now!!

Now, I know that many of you are probably big fans of the classic "white Christmas"...am I right?!  I will admit that a dusting of sparkly snow outside can look quite magical when you're tucked warm and safe inside; I just don't like dealing with the accompanying cold and mess!!

But whatever your wishes might be for the big day, the countdown is definitely on; can you believe there's only three more sleeps to go??

P.S. My husband and I already have the best gift ever...Badger has started eating on his own!!  Yippee!!

Into the fray

I honestly can't believe that next week at this time, Christmas will be over again for another whole year...how is that possible??

Of course, with everything that my husband and I have been through recently, we haven't been in much of a "holiday spirit;" all the pre-Christmas craziness that normally gets me excited about the season - and by that, I mean diving into the fray that is our local shopping mall! - just hasn't happened.

But I promised you outfit photos, dear readers...and outfit photos necessitate the creation of an outfit, am I right?!  I'm not the kind of girl to sit around in my pyjamas even if I'm just staying at home...but once this look was a done deal (and little Badger fed and comfortable) it seemed a shame not to take my shaggy Free People cardigan and leopard clutch for a bit of a spin.

The mall was as busy as expected; and spending an hour in a blur of holiday tunes and coloured lights and rushing shoppers suddenly made Christmas seem real.  Of course, the real Christmas is about so much more than that...and now I just might be ready to start counting my blessings again.

Day by day

As much as it sometimes feels like it might...the world doesn't actually stop revolving when we have challenges in our lives to contend with; the laundry still needs to be done, and groceries still have to be stocked up.

My husband and I are continuing to do everything we can to nurse our last little ferret.  One of us needs to be at home to hand-feed him every two to three hours because he's not eating on his own; so we only have small windows of opportunity to go out together...and this afternoon it was to take care of that grocery shopping that I mentioned.

Of course, we also took a few moments for an outfit photoshoot!  Do you recognize the plaid shirt-dress that I picked up from Anthropologie at the end of the summer?  I'd been thinking of trying it as a long vest for a while now...and was totally inspired by how my blogger friend Debbie (Fashion Fairy Dust) worked her red plaid duster into a cool, glam-grunge look a few weeks ago.

And yes, my smile might be coming back...little by little.  I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Badger's health does, too.
