Style 3-Play: Flare Jeans Look Three

If you've been following along this week, then you've already seen my fabulous new flare jeans styled in a minimalist way for Look One...and with a bohemian spin for Look Two.  Today, I decided on an outfit with a touch of tomboy!!

For a girl who's always saying she prefers a knit over a button-down, I sure reach for this oversized blue-plaid number a lot, don't I?!  I'm even wearing it in the photo on my "about me" page!!

But the softness of the fabric - and the drapey silhouette - prevent the claustrophobic feeling I often get with shirts and blouses...plus, it's plaid!!  That particular crush is showing no signs of cooling off anytime soon!!  ;)

And now it's clear that I'm in the middle of yet another sartorial love affair!!  Denim flares won't be replacing my skinny jeans, of course...but they will be giving them some pretty serious competition!!

Style 3-Play: Flare Jeans Look Two

While my first flare jeans look was all about letting the denim itself be the star of the show, for today's outfit I wanted to have some fun and go with a bit of an "I'm with the band" feel!!

Can I pat myself on the back and say that I absolutely love the way this combination came together?! Aside from the jeans, nothing I'm wearing here is new...but my embroidered jacket, graphic tee and floppy hat kind of feel like they were made especially for these flares of mine, don't you agree??

And while there might have been a time when I wouldn't have thought to do a pair of cognac heels and an amber pendant with a grey-on-black outfit like this, I'm so happy I took a little accessories risk and went with the unexpected!!

So, dear readers - have you chosen a favourite yet between Look One and Look Two??  Or maybe you're reserving judgement until you see my third flares ensemble??  Remember...it's happening this Friday!!

Style 3-Play: Flare Jeans Look One

I can't believe that I haven't done a Style 3-Play since January, dear readers (where does the time go?)...but since I'm all about my brand new flare jeans right now, I thought they'd be just the piece to feature for this week!!

I've been on the lookout for a pair to replace the boot-cut jeans that don't fit me anymore; despite the fact that flares are trending in big way right now, they'd actually proven to be rather challenging to find at any of my regular shopping haunts!!

It ended up being American Eagle that came to my rescue...although I initially only saw the bleached and majorly distressed version of these "Artist" jeans, and was so disappointed that they didn't come in a darker wash.  Then I walked around to the other side of the rack, and ta-da!!  There they were!!

My first flares outfit has a subtle seventies feel to it...but a sleeker, more minimalist one than the boho vibe that I often go for.  Today, I wanted most of the focus to be on the jeans themselves; you'll have to stay tuned for Look Two on Wednesday to see where I take them from here!!  ;)

Memory lane: Striped maxi dress with a floral kimono

My husband and I celebrated our thirteenth anniversary this past weekend (our actual wedding date is May 19th, but seriously...who wants to party on a Tuesday?!) and every year, we make sure to revisit the little chapel where our ceremony took place.

Minoru Chapel is no longer affiliated with any church, but as a "heritage building" it is maintained by the city of Richmond (a neighbour of Vancouver) and can be rented for weddings...and occasionally, as a location for a movie or commercial!!

Robin and I marvelled at the fact that all the rhododendrons in the park around the chapel had already finished blooming; in 2002, there were flowers everywhere...but our spring started so early this year that we missed them by a good three weeks!!

The upside??  Our summer seems to be ahead of schedule, too; I wasn't the least bit chilly today...even with nothing more than a light-as-air kimono layered over this strapless maxi dress!!

Therapy session: jumpsuit with a floral moto jacket and purple heels

Any die-hard fashionista will undoubtedly agree that nothing beats a good "retail therapy" session to get your mind off your troubles!!

I've got two weeks to go before my date with the dentist's chair, and I'll be honest...the interim could end up being a bit challenging for my wallet!!  This utility-inspired jumpsuit from Forever 21 and Guess floral moto jacket, however??  It's possible (teehee!) that I had already added those to my closet before my drama-filled return from vacation!!

Still, I think that wearing a new piece (or two!) for the very first time can be just as thrilling as the initial shopping rush!!  And then there are these purple T-strap heels; even though they haven't seen the light of day for a while, they've been part of my shoe wardrobe for a while...and today they were exactly the finishing touch that this ensemble of mine needed!!

I might not be eating or sleeping particularly well right now...but that sure doesn't mean I'm going to let my outfit game slide!!  ;)

Drama queen: a corduroy mini-skirt with boots and a denim jacket

So now that I'm counting down the days until I meet my doom in the dentist's chair - excuse me, until my tooth meets its doom - it's occurred to me that I've kind of been "through the wringer" since I started my blog just a little over a year and a half ago.

I've lost three of my fur-kids (two of them within a week of each other); I broke my foot (during an outfit photoshoot, no less); I developed a deep vein thrombosis (a result of wearing a cast); and now I'm dealing with the aforementioned dental disaster.  It's enough to make me think that this blog of mine is bad luck!!

But in keeping with my believe that everything happens for a reason, I'm trying hard to look at things from a slightly different perspective...that perhaps having my blog to focus on is just the thing I've needed to get me through all these episodes of "Sturm und Drang."

I'll be honest though, dear readers...I'm really ready for a nice looong stretch of life without the drama!!

Wind tossed: dotted skinnies with a slouchy tee, floral scarf, and long cardigan

Okay, dear readers, I have to ask...do any of you happen to own a time machine??  Because right now I am desperate to go back to a day when battling the wind while shooting outfit photos was my life's biggest challenge.

After two dentist appointments since last Friday, and a third one with my endodontist yesterday afternoon, it's been confirmed that I've cracked the root of one of my teeth.  I have no choice...it has to come out.

To say that I'm horrified is an understatement; losing a tooth is honestly my worst nightmare coming true. There's probably some eye-rolling going on right now - I know a lot of people won't think it's such a big deal - but I can hardly bear to think about what lies ahead.

Once again, the smiles are going to be in rather short supply around here; but I'm as grateful as ever for the distraction of blogging...and the support of all my wonderful blogger friends.  Thank you so much for hanging out - and "hanging in" - with me.

Dream day: layered tops, skinny jeans, and combat boots

Now that I've been back home in Vancouver for almost a week (and dealing with some dental drama, as well) it's hard to believe that our trip to New Brunswick wasn't merely a lovely dream...

But luckily I have these fab pictures with my sister to prove otherwise!!  I just might have ambushed her with the news that today was the day we were doing our sibling photoshoot  - I didn't even give her a chance to change outfits! - but seriously, how could we not take advantage of this amazing private beach for a backdrop??

As you can see, my four-legged niece Lenny decided that she wasn't going to be left out of the fun, either; after all, what dog could possibly resist the temptation to chase the surf and romp in the sand!!

And look!!  I think even my dad might have momentarily forgotten the presence of the camera while we enjoyed our sunny afternoon outing...hi there, Dad!!  ;)

Rocky return: Skinny jeans with booties and a slouchy cardigan

Goodness...is my family ever camera shy!!  Remember how I mentioned that I might have a special guest or two for my New Brunswick photo shoots??  You know...since all of us would be together for the first time in over 10 years?!

It took lots of convincing, but I finally had a volunteer; and now I'm very proud to introduce you to my canine niece "Lenny!!"  I'm sure you'll agree that this gorgeous girl has some major star quality...despite the fact that she looks just a bit worried about her modelling debut!!

And speaking of worried - I've unfortunately come home from my wonderful vacation with a tooth issue that's looking rather serious.  I know most of us don't like visiting the dental office, but I've been known to have full-on anxiety attacks; even biting(!) my dentist on one embarrassing occasion!!

My mom tells me there's no point in panicking before I even know exactly what I'm dealing with, but that's easier said than done; there's already been plenty of tears...and I'm once again subsisting on a diet of Starbucks chai lattes.  Please keep your fingers crossed for me!!
