Sleepwalking: Flare jeans and a denim shift dress

Thank goodness for weekends - especially long ones! - because I am desperate to catch up on a little sleep over the next three days!!

I'm totally convinced that the only thing keeping me going right now is this non-stop adrenalin rush over our impending move; but of course that's a double-edged sword, since it's also what's been keeping me up much too late...night...after night...after night!!

Even though I've barely set foot inside a clothing store for weeks now (hard to believe, but true!) my hubby and I went furniture shopping at Ikea after work today for his new office space; a little premature, perhaps...but we would have been silly not to take advantage of their sale, am I right??  ;)

Despite finding myself with a severe shortage of blogging time, I'm still determined to maintain my regular outfit post schedule; after all, I have to get dressed...no matter what!!  And I hope that you'll stick with me and keep visiting, dear readers...even if our relationship is currently a little one-sided!!

Hurry up and wait: patterned wrap dress, grandpa cardigan, and stack-heeled boots

I have a feeling that these next eight weeks - until we move into our brand new home! - will simultaneously seem like they're passing incredibly quickly...and like they're dragging on forever!!

Everything from budget to floor plan is on the agenda right now; and our growing list of "to-do's" is more than just a little daunting.  Thank goodness we have a long weekend coming up; fingers crossed that my hubby and I can focus our concentration long enough to get a head-start on some serious purging and packing!!

And isn't that typically the problem when it comes to moving??  Let's face it - shopping for cute home accessories and designing the perfect walk-in closet is waaay more fun than stuffing your life into dozens of cardboard boxes!!

But I've got this vision firmly fixed in my head - I'm totally relaxed and settled in our airy, light-filled new living room...sipping tea and blogging to my heart's content.  Let's hope it gets me through all the stressful moments that are sure to lie ahead!!

Moving along: printed pants with a floral moto jacket

Drum roll please, dear readers...I'm finally able to share details of the "top secret" project that my hubby and I have been working so hard at these past few weeks!!

WE'RE MOVING, WE'RE MOVING!!  We bought our dream home and WE'RE MOVING!!  Even as I'm saying the words, I can't quite believe that it's true...especially since we truly thought that the little condo where we currently live - and that we just recently renovated exactly to our specifications - would be our forever home!!

Still - no amount of updating and upgrading could ever provide us with more than one bedroom...or one bathroom.  Nor could any renovation change the fact that the only space available for my husband's office is a closet.  Literally.  But in two short months, he'll have a "man cave" to call his very own; and I'll be enjoying a little slice of ensuite heaven!!  And we'll both be marvelling at our majestic, 13-foot ceilings!!

Getting from here to there, though??  I'm already shuddering at the thought of all the planning and packing that lies ahead.  I promise to keep you updated with our progress...and I hope you'll understand if my visits to you continue to be rather sporadic for the next little while!!

Giddy-up: a cut-off denim skirt with a peasant tank, open-toe booties, and a cowboy hat

Not everyone may agree with me on this...but I think there's nothing quite like a cowboy hat to add some extra "giddy-up-and-go" to a casual summer outfit!!  ;)

Hats like these were originally created to protect the faces and necks of wild west ranchers from endless days spent under a blazing sun...so together with my cut-off denim skirt and peasant-inspired camisole, mine made the ideal choice for beating our seemingly endless Vancouver heatwave!!

If I'd finished this look with sandals and a woven tote, I would have been all set to spend a lazy day at the beach...but since a slew of errands was on the agenda instead, I opted to give things more of an urban spin by wearing a pair of open-toed booties and my zebra-embellished satchel.

So now, of course, I simply have to ask...are you a fan of cowboy hats - and my eclectic combo! - dear readers??  Be sure to leave me a note and let me know!!

Sounding off: A breezy top, cargo pants, and accents of animal print

Are you good at multi-tasking, dear readers??

Now let me clarify - when I say "multi-tasking," I don't mean simple stuff like checking your emails while eating breakfast; I'm talking about juggling life when it suddenly becomes waaay more complicated than what you're accustomed to!!

This big decision that my husband and I have been struggling with coming so shortly after our recent loss has made me painfully aware that tackling numerous issues simultaneously is most definitely NOT something I do very well; I'm on my Starbucks soy chai latte diet again...and even more sleep-deprived than usual.  I know that there are people who work well - even thrive - under pressure; but I'd rather have each of my opportunities and challenges presented with lots of breathing room in between.

But life just isn't like that, is it?!  And at the very least, I'll (hopefully!) be able to share the details of our "project" with my favourite sounding board - that's all of you! - very soon!!

M.I.A.: striped pencil skirt, distressed t-shirt, and a dash of zebra

The weekend - a time that I think a lot of us reserve for catching up on blogging and some much-needed R&R - has come and gone...but around here, life continues to be in quite an upheaval!!

Aside from dealing with our grief over Wolfie's loss just a few short days ago (don't let these photos fool you; there's still a constant threat that I might break into tears at any given moment) my husband and I are also deep in the planning of our as yet "top secret" project, as well!!

We're beyond excited over the possible outcome - we should know by Friday if everything is going to pan out - but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious about what will surely be a couple of extremely busy months ahead for hubby and me!!

And of course - I'm on pins and needles about sharing my big news with you, dear readers!!  I've missed visiting you and answering the lovely notes you're always so wonderful to leave for me; but I'm determined to keep at least my "outfit inspiration" game going strong...even if my communication skills need a little work right now!!  ;)

Sorrow

Once again there is grief in the Faulkner household, dear readers...our sweet Wolfie is no longer with us.

My husband and I have said good-bye to four fur-kids in the past seven months; I feel like I've barely had time to recover from the loss of one...before being blindsided by the loss of the next.  We adopted Wolfie in February; and as a senior with some health concerns, we knew he might not be a part of our family for long.

It hasn't even been half a year...but through my tears and sadness, I am so grateful that we were able to provide him with a safe and loving home for these last months of his life.  Adieu, darling Wolfie; our own lives are that much richer for having known your gentle and trusting spirit.

Rock and roller: a white linen shirt, blue denim skinnies, and sherpa bag

Life is sometimes a real carnival ride...isn't it, dear readers??

styling a white shirt with blue denim skinnies, open-toe mules, and a furry bag!

Despite the smiles in these photos, the last couple of days have had as many ups and downs as a roller coaster; and trust me...I'm not the kind of girl that thinks roller coaster rides are particularly fun.

After showing all signs of recovering from his mystery illness, our ferret Wolfie is once again gravely ill. And just to make things even more stomach-churning, it continues to be insanely busy at work (no lunch breaks to catch up with blogging!) and my husband and I were unexpectedly presented with a possible new "project" last weekend - sorry, no details are being released at this time! - so there have been plenty of looong days and sleepless nights.

I'm not surprised if you've been feeling a little neglected lately, since I'm finding it challenging right now to eke out some time to reply to all your lovely notes...never mind keeping up with my blog reading list!! But please be assured that your visits and comments are as appreciated as always.  And I'll get back on a more level track as soon as I possibly can - I promise!!

Denim days: flare jeans, graphic tank top, and sleeveless linen coat

Even though I've been absolutely basking in Vancouver's recent heatwave, I will admit to "jonesing" for my jeans just a little...so now that our temperatures have dropped back down to a more moderate level, of course my flared denims were the first thing I reached for!!

And I'm back to some layering, too!!  While dressing for very hot weather is all about minimalism - after all, the fewer items you have on, the cooler you feel! - an extra piece added to an ensemble (like this sleeveless linen waistcoat I found at Zara) almost magically manages to make any outfit suddenly more interesting!!

The unexpected pairing of my "Canada" tank top with a double length of pearls and rhinestones definitely creates some interest, too; and this zebra-stripe-embellished Fossil bag adds a fun pop of animal print to finish things off!!

Summer will always be my favourite season, but I'm happy to have an occasional cooler day or two mixed in with all that warmth...if only to keep my sartorial senses sharp!!  ;)
