Storm trooper: skinny jeans with a knit shrug and peasant-style tank

Whew!!  So glad to be back to some peace and quiet again here in Vancouver after enduring some seriously stormy weather this past Saturday!!

styling bleached skinny jeans with a peasant-style tank top and cable-knit shrugThere were around 400 000 people left without power - it was pure luck that I was one of the few not affected! - after winds of 80 kilometres per hour (that's 50 mph for my American readers!) knocked over trees and knocked out hydro lines in neighbourhoods all around British Columbia's lower mainland.

And in yesterday's aftermath, picking up my husband from the airport - he was returning from a business trip to Calgary - ended up taking rather longer than I had anticipated; I needed about half an hour just to get from our home to the freeway...something that usually takes all of five minutes!!  Needless to say, I was late!!

But since yesterday also happened to be my birthday(!) my hubby seemed happy enough to forgive my tardiness...I even got treated to an extra Starbucks chai latte!!  :)

Stork story: patterned shift dress with a wide belt and platform booties

Oh boy, dear readers...I'm re-discovering exactly how tough it is to write a blog post when I keep getting distracted by the antics of not just one - but two! - frolicking ferrets!!  ;)

The fact that "Fritz" and his new friend "Freki" are getting along so well is - of course! - absolutely wonderful news; my husband and I are always cautious when we first introduce a ferret into the household...but these two hit it off right from the start!!

And speaking of "new??"  My stork-print shift dress technically isn't...but it's the first time that I've worn it since I brought it home from H&M back in the springtime!!  I'm usually all about styling a purchase at the earliest opportunity...but as I've yet to do any post- "we decided to move" clothes shopping, I'm actually quite happy that I have a few pieces with tags still attached hanging in my wardrobe!!

So shopping my own closet is where it's at right now when it comes to outfit combinations...but a new home - and a new "baby!" - are definitely worth it!!

Double trouble: dotted skinny jeans and a leopard-print cropped sweatshirt

For the past few weeks or so, each time I sit down to review the results of my newest outfit photo shoot, I'm genuinely surprised that I don't look like the proverbial "death warmed over!!"  I guess there really is merit in making an effort with your outfit...even if you just feel like staying in your pyjamas all day!!

Getting to sleep before midnight seems to be an impossible dream right now; after a busy day at work, my evenings have never felt shorter as I try to catch up on my emails, get my next blog post ready to go, do some new home planning, and squeeze in an hour or two of downtime...all before dropping into bed and starting again the next day!!

And to make things even more - um - challenging as we head steadily closer to our September 24th moving day??  My husband and I adopted another ferret from one of our local animal shelters last night!! Definitely not the best timing (we'd kind of planned to wait until after we'd settled into our new condo!) but how could we possibly say no when little "Fritz" has been missing out on having a friend to snuggle with?!

And to top it all off, I'm on my own this weekend, too...hubby is heading to Calgary for a business trip!!  I sure hope you'll still find me in one piece next week, dear readers!!  ;)

Boxed in: sequinned t-shirt with skinny jeans, booties, and a floppy hat

Another weekend spent getting ready for our move, dear readers...and I'm starting to feel a little like I'm drowning in a sea of cardboard cartons!!

Thank goodness that a neighbour wanted (and already picked up!) one of the furniture pieces that my hubby and I had decided we wouldn't be taking to our new place; at least we managed to free up some square footage in preparation for stacking all the boxes we've packed so far!!

And packed they are...almost right to the ceiling!!  It's amazing how much stuff a one-bedroom condo can hold; and quite disconcerting to have virtually all of our worldly possessions piled around us, rather than tucked neatly out-of-sight in various cupboards and closets!!

Now all I can do is hope we get everything put away just as nicely - and quickly! - in our new home; we've already started issuing invitations for a house-warming party...and of course I haven't forgotten that I promised you some "on location" photos as soon as possible, too!!

Irresistible: a knit camisole, slouchy cargo pants, and tasselled scarf

Last Friday I mentioned that I haven't been clothes shopping since we put in the offer on our new home in the middle of July; which - when it comes to shopping! - feels like forevereven though it's actually only been about five weeks!!

But I also mentioned tucking away a few items which I didn't have the opportunity to wear right away; and this gorgeous, gauzy scarf is one of those pieces!!  Despite being a Winners find, it was a little on the pricey side; honestly, though...how could I possibly resist the silky shimmer of that baby blue and gold fabric?!

Plus, it has tassels...and I love, love, love me some tassels!!  Today, they happened to be the ideal, boho-inspired finishing touch for my otherwise simple tank-and-cargos ensemble; and I don't think anyone can deny that they're just plain fun, too!!

So now it's your turn, dear readers...what detail will instantly take a piece into "must-have" territory for you??

Feeling groovy: patterned romper, sleeveless trench, and statement accessories

My regular visitors may remember the first time I wore this patterned romper back in March...and I think I managed to take it in a totally different direction today!!

styling a patterned romper with a sleeveless coat, concho belt, and over-knee boots

Since there isn't likely to be a lot of clothes shopping on the agenda for me in the foreseeable future (the budget issue aside, my focus has definitely shifted in the direction of home decorating recently!) I'll be putting my creative side into overdrive as I rework my existing wardrobe in - hopefully! - lots of new and interesting ways!!

It was the hippie-inspired print of this little onesie that originally convinced me to take it home; and for today's outfit, I wanted to play up that vibe by accessorizing it with my concho belt and suede, over-knee boots.  But a bit of contrast never hurts...am I right?!  By finishing things off with a textured, oversized clutch and sleek, sleeveless trench, I ended up with an ensemble that's much more "street" than "festival!!"

So now I'd love to hear if you enjoy adding a touch of the boho trend to your summer style, dear readers!! And if you're a fan of my combo??  Remember...I'm participating in the Bloglovin Follower Challenge this month!!  ;)

Short on time: denim bermuda shorts, peasant blouse, and strappy nude sandals

So another schedule-challenged weekend is behind us, dear readers...and my hubby and I are honestly just a little rattled by how quickly our moving day is approaching!!  Gulp!!

styling a peasant blouse with denim bermuda shorts and strappy nude sandals

It's starting to look like a moving zone around here, too; we've already given away a couple of furniture pieces that we agreed wouldn't work in our new space...and all those empty boxes that I've been collecting from the veterinary clinic??  They're filling up and getting stacked against the walls.

Although packing is definitely our top priority right now, there's something else (besides outfit photo shoots and Starbucks breaks, of course!) that's been absolutely mandatory every. single. week. since this whole unexpected adventure of ours began...a visit to our dream home!!  It's like a soothing balm against those inevitable moments of hair-pulling!!

As anxious as I am to have this turmoil and busyness behind me - it's been ages since I had the time to do any blog reading! - I also know it's going to be a while yet before that happens.  A huge thanks to all of you for being my personal cheerleaders while I get from here to there...

Time and space: gingham skirt with a wide belt and biker tank top

We had made plans with our friends to meet them for brunch this morning to celebrate our upcoming move, and wouldn't you know it...I overslept!!  Talk about needing to throw together an outfit totally "on the fly!!"  :-0

styling a black-and-white gingham skirt with a Dayton tank, extra-wide belt, and cut-out booties

I'd brought home this cute little black-and-white gingham skirt from Forever 21 about a month ago, but I hadn't found the perfect occasion for its debut...until today!!  That's really not too surprising - I don't always wear brand new pieces right away - but what is surprising is that it's one of the very last clothing purchases that I've made!!  This diehard shopper, who's such a regular at the local mall that she's on a first name basis with most of the Starbucks baristas there, hasn't been to any of her favourite haunts in almost four whole weeks!!

styling a black-and-white gingham skirt with a Dayton tank, extra-wide belt, and cut-out booties

Saying there's been absolutely no shopping whatsoever would be a lie, of course; my hubby and I have visited Ikea and Bed Bath & Beyond more than once or twice recently...after all, we have his new office space to plan for and furnish!!

Dayton "OK Oil" tank and Betsey Johnson earrings

But it's not a bad thing that I'm already practicing for a life without quite as many regular shopping excursions as I've been used to; we're giving up some "wiggle room" in the budget for some actual wiggle room...and we're quite all right with that!!

Counting down: skinny jeans, tunic, and a fedora

I did a count on my kitchen calendar last night and suddenly realized that - Oh. My. Gosh! - we only have five weekends to go before the big move!!

styling light-wash skinny jeans with a tunic, snake-print pumps, and a fedora

Well technically, it's actually six weekends; but because my husband is going to be away on business the last Saturday and Sunday of this month, I'm figuring those two days don't really count...especially since it's my birthday weekend, too!!  It's doubtful a lot of packing will be getting done then!!  ;)

A (small!) part of me isn't worried; after all, it's not like we have three bedrooms and a basement to empty out!!  On the other hand, I also know that once we start digging into those cupboards and closets, we'll no longer be able to ignore all the "stuff" we've managed to accumulate over the last fifteen-plus years in our current home!!

For now, though, the focus is on those things that won't be coming to our new condo with us...which means that for my more immediate future, there will definitely be some extra donation runs to the Salvation Army to mark on the agenda!!
