Vegging out: a red suede mini-skirt with patterned tights and an army-style parka

A genuine suede envelope skirt in the loveliest shade of tomato red??  Don't mind if I do, dear readers!!

This little beauty is my latest find from that fashion wonderland known as Forever 21!!  Not too long ago, I read how the company has challenged itself to woo a more discerning buyer with pieces that offer just that extra bit of sophistication...and if this skirt is any indication, they're certainly off to a very good start!!

New "bottoms" have been a priority on my wishlist recently because so many of my skirts and pants from last year don't fit me anymore; it's a nice excuse to go shopping, of course...but I do have an old favourite or two that I'm hoping will be wearable again after some alterations.

And - as you can see! - I'm trying very hard to add a bit more colour to my mostly neutral wardrobe!!  I'd love to know if I managed to surprise you today with this pop of vibrant red...and to hear what colours you reach for again and again when you make your outfit selections!!

P.S. Happy Fun Fashion Friday!!  Remember to join the party and link up via Fashion Should Be Fun!!

Pumped up: slouchy pants and t-shirt with a long cardigan, beanie, and leopard pumps

Because I'm always in scrubs when I'm at work, my days off are the only opportunity I have to flex my sartorial muscles...so you better believe that I take full advantage and wear whatever I happen to be in the mood for!!

Occasionally that means a very "dressy" look; but most of the time I'll do an outfit that's a bit more on the casual side...not that this ever precludes a good accessories game, though!!  ;)

Today I reached for my fave leather beanie, a long cardigan, and a couple of layered necklaces to up the ante of this slouchy white tee and plaid pants combination!!  And the finishing touch??  Sleek animal-print pumps!!  Together with my black suede pair, these pumps have become real go-to's for me; it's hard to believe that only a few years ago, I didn't understand what all the fuss was about!!

Now I'm definitely thinking about adding a third pair to my footwear wardrobe!!  Any suggestions for colour - or even another pattern? - dear readers?!

Green delicious: layering a mohair sweater over a drapey blouse

While neutrals are always awesome in my books, there's no denying that a pop of colour can add a whole lot of "oomph" to any sartorial ensemble!!

This juicy apple green is a personal favourite of mine; and since our weather continues to be quite mild here in Vancouver, I was really happy that I could wear my mohair sweater as an outer layer today...rather than hide that fluffy cuteness under a jacket!!

But I did go with a little "something something" under my sweater...in the form of a flowy, reptile-print blouse!!  My first instinct was actually to go with a more body-skimming layer - to balance out the chunkiness of the knit - but I'm glad I opted to experiment; I love the way the sleeves and hem of the blouse add an extra bit of movement to this look!!

And how about you, dear readers...have you done any experimenting with your outfit combinations lately??  I hope you'll take a moment to share!!

State of grey: Chanel-style jacket with grey skinny jeans and booties

Now that Robin and I have (more or less!) settled in and settled down from our move, I've had the urge to add a few new pieces to that glorious walk-in closet of mine...so yes, dear readers!!  I've done some shopping!!

Finding the "perfect" grey skinny jeans had actually been on my mind since waaay before packing ever was; after all, what kind of a fan of neutrals could I possibly be without a basic like this in my denim line-up...am I right?!

I've been pleasantly surprised by the fit and quality of jeans from Forever 21 before, and these are definitely no exception; they sit nicely on the hips without gaping, the denim is wonderfully soft and stretchy, and a small cuff takes care of the length...no hemming required!!

So together with my collection of grey sweaters and tees (not to mention this Chanel-inspired jacket and my favourite ankle booties!) I've now got all kinds of ammunition for some sleek grey-on-grey ensembles!! Looking forward to hearing how you like this first combination!!  :)

Kicking it: gingham skirt, chambray shirt, and booties with attitude!

In case you haven't notice yet...I am such a fan of styling skirts and dresses with boots, instead of going the "safer" route with pretty sandals or pumps!!

styling a gingham skirt with a chambray shirt and punk-inspired booties

Boots and booties - even without the punkish details of the pair I'm wearing today! - always add an edge to a skirt's inherent femininity that really appeals to me; despite the fact that I'm ├╝ber-girly in virtually every other respect, it's rare that I will actually dress that way!!

The knotted shirt??  It's a subtle take on the midriff-baring trend that's still going strong...plus, can I just point out how amazing it is - global warming aside - to be able to do an outfit like this (with no jacket needed!) in the middle of October?!

And taking my own pictures already seems to be getting a tiny bit easier...although I'm anxiously awaiting the delivery of that shutter remote!!  Even with all the room we have out on our new balcony, it's still kind of tricky maneuvering around the tripod and hitting my "place" before the timer goes off!!

Not so jaded: striped skinny jeans, embroidered jacket, and a fedora

Personal style inspiration can sometimes come from some rather unexpected sources...don't you agree, dear readers??

styling striped skinny jeans with an embroidered jacket, Sam Edelman pumps, and a fedora

Aside from being a fan of Aerosmith's music, I've also been a long-time admirer of lead singer Steven Tyler's rather flamboyant - but undeniably cool! - rocker wardrobe!!  He dons hats and mixes patterns like nobody's business...and I'm not at all embarrassed to say that today's outfit is definitely influenced by Mr. Tyler's signature look!!

The secret to taking sartorial inspiration and making it your own??  Don't go too "literal!!"  Use favourite pieces (I grabbed my striped skinnies and new fedora!) and combine them to create an ensemble that hints at your muse...but doesn't exactly copy her - or him!!  ;)

And yippee!!  For my second go-around, I actually managed to capture three decent pics with my camera and tripod setup!!  The biggest thanks goes out for all your words of encouragement regarding my newly solo photography endeavour; I've said it before...but I really do have the very best followers in the entire blogosphere!!

Jumpstart: crochet midi-dress, floral moto jacket, and socks with heels!

This is it...my very first outfit post sans the assistance of my husband-as-photographer!!

styling a white crocket midi-dress with a floral moto jacket and ankle socks with heels!

After spending an entire evening experimenting with my brand new tripod and the self-timer on my camera - since the "remote shutter release" I ordered online hasn't been delivered yet! - and another hour jumping back and forth in my midi-dress and purple heels, I ended up with this:  One. Solitary. Image.

Ouch!!  Apparently, I have a steep learning curve ahead of me!!  For some reason, I could not get the darn camera to focus properly...nearly every single photo looked like it was taken underwater!!  Let's hope that my average improves (at least a little!) once I get my hands on that shutter remote!!

As for my ensemble here??  You're not seeing things; I was finally brave enough to try pairing some pretty ankle socks with those aforementioned heels!!  For a girl who normally HATES socks, that's a major sartorial leap of faith...and I'm very curious to know if you think it paid off!!

P.S. It's another Fun Fashion Friday, everyone!!  Take a moment to visit Fashion Should Be Fun, link up...and let the celebrations begin!!  :)

A new direction: slouchy plaid pants with a cropped sweatshirt and denim jacket

There are some more changes happening over here, dear readers!!  Our unexpected decision to move was certainly a major one as far as life in general goes...but this newest development??  It's directly related to my little corner of the blogosphere!!

styling slouchy plaid pants with a cropped sweatshirt, denim jacket, and Nine West heels

After two years of generously contributing his time to help me get StyleIsMyPudding off to a good start, my hubby has decided to "retire" from blog photography and focus on his own pursuits.

I'm sad to be losing my partner in this pictorial journey of my personal style...but I totally understand that he would rather be doing his own thing instead of tagging along - camera in hand - whenever I head out on one of my shopping jaunts!!

So I've invested in a tripod and a shutter remote, and I'm ready for the challenge of going it alone...as of this Friday!!  I hope you'll enjoy the new perspective - after all, change is good! - and I shall do my best to get my (solo) photographic skills up to par as quickly as possible!!

Safari girl: fedora hat with an army parka, chambray shirt, and flare jeans

So, dear readers - I simply couldn't wait a moment longer to show you my first "wearable" (as opposed to "household") purchase in over two months!!

My regular visitors will undoubtedly have spotted it right away; I've added a fab new hat to my growing collection!!  This wide-brim, chocolate-brown fedora has barely left my head since I snagged it at Winners just last week...it's one of those pieces that seems to work with everything!!

Today I loved the dash of "adventure" that my newest headwear acquisition added to my double denim and khaki combination; the perfect completer piece to finish off a look that's equal parts tomboy and seventies-inspired...

With thanks: plaid pencil skirt, pleather peplum top, and wool shrug

We're celebrating Thanksgiving Day here in Canada on Monday...and while I have SO much to be thankful for, I think this particular long weekend will be more about sleeping than anything else!!

styling a plaid pencil skirt with a faux-leather peplum top, wool shrug, and knee boots

Too many (very!) short nights recently have finally caught up with me; now that the initial adrenaline rush of our move has started to wear off, I'm barely able to keep my eyes open after I get home from work each evening.

And I'm still not completely recovered from the virus I caught about a month ago; in fact, the coughing was bad enough last weekend that I think I might have pulled a muscle in my chest...or maybe even cracked a rib!!  Talk about feeling completely "beat up!!"

Never fear though, dear readers...I'm absolutely determined to once again become a fully functional blogger just as soon as possible!!  And if you'll hang in with me a wee bit longer, I promise that - before you know it! - I'll be returning your visits and thanking you personally for all the kind messages you've been leaving here for me!!

Drought: oversized turtleneck, striped jeans, pumps, and a floppy hat

I've been so totally wrapped up in all that's involved with buying a new home, I can honestly say that I barely noticed I hadn't made a single new wardrobe acquisition in over two whole months!!

styling an oversized turtleneck sweater with striped jeans, pumps, and a floppy hat

It's certainly been a record-breaking "dry spell" for me...and one that I'll admit to remedying today!!  After a quick trip to Bed Bath & Beyond after work (I wanted to replace some clothes hangers that were broken during our move) I simply couldn't resist popping into the Winners located right next door.

And what exactly did I end up bringing home with me - aside from the aforementioned hangers??  I'm keeping that a little secret for now, dear readers...

You are all so wonderfully patient to follow along with me through the chaos and excitement of our domestic repositioning; but I imagine that by now, you might like to have a slightly more "shopping-centric" post to look forward to!!  ;)

In the dust: flare jeans with a tank top and grandpa cardigan

Moving and settling into a new home is definitely not for the faint of heart, dear readers!!

styling flare jeans with a tank top and chunky grandpa cardigan

Robin and I managed to accomplish a lot this weekend (even catching up on a bit of sleep!) but somehow, our lengthy to-do list just doesn't seem to be getting any shorter!!  Obviously I'm exaggerating...but it's amazing how project after project just keeps popping up!!

tank top, chunky grandpa cardigan, medallion necklace, and Fossil bag

styling flare jeans with a tank top and chunky grandpa cardigan

How can there be so much to do in a newly built condo, you ask??  Well, while the space is there - like the walk-in closet that I keep mentioning! - it isn't necessarily set up to suit our needs; which means some trips to the Home Depot and Benjamin Moore...and some patching and sanding and painting to take care of before stuff can be properly stowed away.

So once again, there's a jumble of shoes on the bedroom floor and a closetful of clothes piled onto the bed; waiting until I can get the drywall dust washed off the walls and vacuumed out of the carpet.  But we all know that good things come to those who wait...am I right?!
