Lovelace: lace-up heels with boyfriend jeans and a faux-fur vest

Even though I am less than thrilled with the frosty weather Vancouver's been having lately, there's certainly no denying that it's a terrific opportunity to work on my outfit layering skills!!  ;)

I've been desperate to show off these gorgeous new lace-up shoes of mine...and today they happened to make exactly the right finishing touch for this tomboyish combination of distressed boyfriend jeans, white button-front shirt, and shrunken cardigan!!

But how to add some additional - and very necessary! - warmth...without covering up the entire ensemble in the process??  That can obviously be a real challenge with layered looks; and this time it was my long, faux-fur vest that came to my sartorial rescue!!

While the heels might be the pièce de résistance of this particular outfit, I truly fell in love with the entire, somewhat unexpected combination!!  Of course, now I'm anxious to hear what you have to say, dear readers; do you agree that my laced and layered look is a wardrobe hit?!

Tree time: Oversized turtleneck, patterned skinnies, booties, and woolen beanie

My husband and I did some Christmas tree (window) shopping this afternoon...for the first time in over five years!!

Our previous condo was just too small for a proper Christmas tree, so we'd been making do with a tabletop version created from driftwood with a starfish for a topper; very appropriate for the beach-house vibe we had happening at our other home...but not quite the same as the real deal!!

Which brings us to our current conundrum.  Robin and I can't seem to decide if we should go "traditional" with a cut tree...or take the environmental high road with a live tree...or totally "modern" with an artificial one!!  I'll be honest - artificial trees don't hold a lot of charm for me; not when so much of the holiday has already gone the plastic, "made in China" route.  But we don't have a garden to plant a live tree after it's done its Christmas duty...and nowadays, killing a tree simply for the pleasure of decorating and admiring it for a couple of weeks doesn't feel right, either.

Since we're planning to host a holiday/housewarming party in a few short weeks, we really need to make up our minds as soon as possible...which means I'm open to any and all suggestions!!  So please tell me, dear readers - do you think that a real tree or a fab fake is the way to go?!

Tech talk: flare jeans, white shirt, and a cardigan coat

Personal style blogging has been part of my life for over two years now...and I can honestly say that my enthusiasm for the "artistic" end of things hasn't waned at all; putting together - and sharing! - interesting outfits is still one of my most favourite things to do!!

What I am getting a little tired of is all the technical challenges I seem to be facing lately!!  It's a pretty safe bet that I know (way!) less about computers than the average blogger does; in fact, I actually started StyleIsMyPudding from my iPad...both because it seemed less intimidating than a "real" computer, and because it was my only option at the time!!

And there's the rub...I still edit my photos on my iPad (I've got Apple's "Aperture" program, but I don't have a clue what to do with it!) and then use a photo transfer app to get the finished pictures onto my MacBook.  Up until now, it's worked like a charm; but lately, my poor little overworked iPad refuses to stay connected to the Internet!!

Fingers crossed that my appointment this weekend with the nice folks at my local Apple Store finally fixes the issue; leaving you without a new ensemble to ogle is not an option...but I really need to start getting a bit more beauty sleep!!  ;)

P.S.  A very Happy Thanksgiving to all my American visitors!!

Short changed: plush tee, slouchy plaid pants, and embroidered scarf

I can imagine you all scratching your heads right now, dear readers...short sleeves in November??  In Canada?!

No - we didn't have an unexpectedly warm day today; in fact, the thermometer never made it any higher than the 6º C (43º F) mark!!  But we did have plenty of sunshine...and without the bone-chilling wind that we were dealing with last week.

Which meant that even with bare arms, this plush top and woolen scarf kept me nice and toasty for a quick dash from the car to my doctor's appointment; and then - as a reward for enduring another series of injections in my leg - to the mall for an afternoon indulging in my favourite pastime...shopping!!

Not that I ever really need an excuse to shop...especially with Christmas right around the corner!!  Who knows - I may even feel brave enough to check out some of those infamous Black Friday sales!!  ;)

Head games: plaid shirt dress, long cardigan, and a woolen beanie

Full disclosure here, folks...after my hubby snapped these outfit pics on our balcony, I couldn't get back inside fast enough to exchange my long cardigan for a warmer coat before I actually headed out for the afternoon!!

Serves me right for checking the weather by looking out of our livingroom window, I guess!!  Yes, it was a lovely, sunny day...but the wind was positively icy!!  The only way I could get away from the numbing chill was by standing right against the wall of our building; poor Robin was out in the open, and had to brave some rather nasty gusts for the benefit of my dear readers!!  ;)

Thank goodness that I'd planned to model my adorable new hat for you, though!!  This handknit woolen beanie was a little treat I brought home for myself from the Circle Craft Christmas Market last weekend ...and even with the windstorm aside, I think I couldn't have made a better choice!!

I've still got my fingers tightly crossed that Vancouver has another mild winter this year; but if we don't, at least I have my "head game" covered...literally!!

Crushing: vegan leather leggings, grandpa cardigan, and leather beanie

Okay...so when I told you that I was having an outfit inspiration "dry spell" on Monday, I might actually have been eyeing up my faux leather leggings again; but I couldn't possibly be considering wearing them again so soon, could I?!

styling faux-leather leggings with platform booties, a grandpa cardigan, and leather beanie

Apparently I could...after all, they really are the very definition of amazing!!  ;)  Styling up a piece that you love, love, love pretty much guarantees that you'll end up with an entire look that you love; and right now I'm absolutely convinced that these leggings make everything I pair them with just a little more perfect!!

I'm thinking that only time will tell whether I'm merely in the middle of a fashion "crush"...or if this is a genuine sartorial relationship.  Are leggings considered a wardrobe classic now??  Will they still work as a go-to outfit building block five years down the road??

One thing's for sure, though...any fashionista worth her - or his! - salt will always make room in that closet for the next new fave!!

Focus: skinny cargo pants, drapey sweater, moto jacket, and platform booties

Any thoughts on the whole "I have nothing to wear" phenomenon, dear readers??

styling skinny cargo pants with a drapey sweater, platform booties, and a moto jacket

Chances are that it's sooo not true - if you're a fan of shopping and all things related to fashion, you'll likely have a closet that's overflowing with sartorial goodies!!  But every once in a while, our personal style mojo can do a bit of a disappearing act...and all those pieces that we usually adore??  They suddenly don't want to come together into an acceptable combination.

Today was one of those days for me...I wasn't in the mood to wear anything in my wardrobe!!  So how did I deal??  I started by focusing on just one item that's been out of regular rotation recently - these skinny cargos - and let the mixing and matching begin!!  And even though I might have ended up with more stuff piled on the bed than on hangers...I also (finally!) managed to find an ensemble I loved!!

Do you have any tips for working around a personal style "dry spell"...or even avoiding one all together?? I think my hubby would be really grateful if you shared!!  ;)

Getting crafty: sweater coat, tank dress, booties, and floppy hat

I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around this...but Christmas is exactly six weeks away today!!

styling a sweater coat with a tank dress, booties, and floppy hat

Didn't the time between the first day of school and the "biggest" holiday of the year seem endless back when we were kids??  Now it feels like summer was only a few short weeks ago...yet there are already telltale twinkling lights in some windows around our neighbourhood!!

But for me, the surest sign that the festive season is just around the corner is Vancouver's annual Circle Craft Christmas Market!!  Spending an entire day browsing the handcrafted artisan-quality wares (you won't find any crocheted toilet roll covers here!) is a yearly tradition I couldn't imagine doing without!!

So tell me, dear readers - have you already been bitten by the holiday bug, too??  It's a little early, yes...but something tells me that Christmas will be here before we know it!!  ;)

Formula One: boyfriend jeans, striped henley, sleeveless coat, and western booties

While it's truly a terrific idea to have an outfit "formula" to count on when we need to feel especially confident, occasionally stepping out of our comfort zone can lead to a whole new world of sartorial possibilities!!

styling boyfriend jeans with a striped henley top, sleeveless coat, and ankle boots

There was a time, for example, when I hated wearing hats; but now they're one of my favourite ways to accessorize!!  It's easy to get so used to seeing ourselves in a certain way - care of a particular hairstyle, or lipstick colour, or clothing silhouette - that it becomes a real challenge to believe that a new look might actually be a good one...merely because it's different from what we've come to expect when we look in the mirror.

I'm obviously well over my headwear phobia(!)...but nowadays, it's menswear-inspired dressing that has me wrinkling my nose.  Even though I enjoy a tomboyish element in many of my ensembles, I'm always resistant to taking the look "all the way."  Normally, I would have reached for some statement heels to balance out the masculinity of my boyfriend jeans and striped henley tee...but today I decided to push myself just a bit and opted for these western-style booties instead.

What do you think??  Does the finished look "work," dear readers...or should I have stayed with my own personal style formula - and a pair of pretty pumps! - instead??  I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions!!
