Style 3-Play: Maroon Turtleneck Look Two

I'm sure I'm not the only fashion fan who's picked up on an ongoing debate over whether certain personal style bloggers actually wear the ensembles that they showcase...after all, some of those looks are pretty darn extravagant!!

If you're a regular visitor here (and of course I hope you are!) you've likely noticed that bits and pieces of an outfit of mine will often reappear as part of another combo within a week or two, even when I'm not featuring a Style 3-Play...because that's honestly how I do it "in real life!!"

For example - when I decide on a particular pair of jeans from my wardrobe, I don't (I can't!) wear them once and then put them back with all my clean things; instead, they go "on repeat" until they're ready for the wash.  So there you have it...evidence to prove that these looks truly are what I wear to run out for an afternoon of shopping...or for Starbucks!!

But does this really matter, dear readers??  Is it important to you that the ensembles you see when you browse the blogosphere are "legit??"  Or can a fabulous outfit be enjoyed simply for being a fabulous outfit...even if it's technically not authentic street style??  I'm awaiting your thoughts!!  :)

(I'm also hoping that you're awaiting my maroon turtleneck Look Three - coming this Friday! - and that you've taken a moment to check out Look One, as well!)

Style 3-Play: Maroon Turtleneck Look One

Was Santa good to all of you, dear readers??  It's hard to believe that the big man has come and gone again for another year, isn't it??

Robin and I had a rather modest Christmas this time around, with no presents under the tree for each other...but that's totally okay, since moving into our new condo was the best gift of all, anyways!!  We did get a bit spoiled by our parents - I guess we'll always be "the kids" to them, even though we no longer really are! - and devoured a scrumptious holiday dinner (my non-vegetarian husband was over the moon to be having turkey!) with the company of some very dear friends.

The annual bedlam that is Boxing Day was thoroughly enjoyed as well; we opted to treat it mostly as a spectator sport rather than doing much shopping ourselves...although I did end up bringing home a little something I'd had my eye on since well before holiday season.  What can I say...at 50% off, I couldn't say no any longer!!  ;)

You'll have to wait until next week to see that particular prize...this week, it's all about my deliciously cozy new turtleneck!!  I'm really thrilled to have (finally!) found another top that compliments my existing wardrobe so well...be sure to visit again on Wednesday and Friday to see my second and third ensembles, too!!

Christmas by candlelight: seventies-inspired sequinned gown and buckle-embellished booties

Well, dear readers, this has already been quite the Christmas to remember...Robin and I spent "the night before" in a total power blackout!!

styling a sequinned, seventies-inspired gown with buckle-embellished bebe booties...and a Christmas lantern!

No dinner, since we had no electricity to cook...no delivery option (everything closes early on Christmas Eve, of course!)...and not even any means of escape, since our vehicle was trapped behind the gate in our underground garage!!

Obviously, spending a cozy evening with a nice, steamy mug of hot chocolate and a holiday movie like I had planned didn't happen, either...I ended up going to bed at 9:00 pm!!  But the very worst?!  Almost no Christmas blog post to send out warmest Seasons Greetings to all of you!!

Thankfully, we're back on the grid as of the wee hours of this morning - hubby was kind enough to wake me up and let me know! - so here I am with wishes for a very, very Merry Christmas to you and your families...and a little last-minute holiday outfit inspiration, too!!  XOXO

Fur baby: faux-fur jacket with a patterned shirt, vegan leather leggings, wedge booties, and floppy hat

Today is my first day of Christmas holidays...and in addition to the imminent arrival of Santa Claus, I'm also really looking forward to a few extra days off work!!

Don't get me wrong - I adore my job at the veterinary clinic; and at this time of year, we certainly get very spoiled by many of our long-time clients with all kinds of holiday treats (the fact that I can't indulge in any of them because of my dietary restrictions is beside the point...it's the thought that counts, and there's plenty of other staff around to devour the mountain of goodies!!)

It's just that it's been seriously busy...way more than what we expect for December, a time when people - quite understandably! - usually have other things on their minds than routine checkups for their furry family members.  A dog that's over-indulged in turkey or a cat that's decided to snack on tree tinsel, on the other hand??  'Tis the season!!

But right now it's all about catching my breath and putting up my tired feet for a few days...after all, those Boxing Day sales are right around the corner!!  ;)

Pageantry: tartan skinnies, turtleneck sweater, and a denim jacket

Did any of you happen to tune into the Miss Universe Pageant yesterday, dear readers??

When we were growing up, my sister and I always loved watching pageants like Miss Canada and Miss USA with my Mom - and even, occasionally, my Dad! - but the Miss Universe competition was probably our favourite...mostly because of the spectacular costumes the girls always wear to open the show!!

In recent years, pageants have come under a lot of scrutiny for various behind-the-scenes scandals made public...and the debate over whether these kinds of "beauty contests" even have a place in our modern world.  While I'm not going to delve into the political correctness (or lack thereof) of judging women as they parade across a stage in their swimsuits, I'm sure most of my fellow fashionistas will agree that the evening gowns and those above-mentioned costumes make for some stunning eye-candy!!

For its 64th year, the Miss Universe organizers made a point of stating that there were a couple of doctors and lawyers taking part in the competition - just in case there was any doubt that they weren't only about appearances, I guess! - but I'm quite happy to admit that my interest was laser-focused solely on the sartorial splendor!!  :)

Snow day: denim mini, sequinned sweater, Chanel-style jacket, and fierce booties!

We have exactly one week to go before Christmas...and as I'm looking out the window, I see the thing I always dread most at this time of year.  It's snowing!!

styling a denim cut-off skirt with a sequinned sweater, Chanel-inspired jacket, black tights, and bebe booties

I'm sooo not the kind of romantic who's dreaming of a white Christmas; in fact, one of my best holidays ever - at least with respect to the weather! - was spent lying on a tropical beach with my hubby!!  Now that's my idea of a perfect way to spend the Yuletide season!!  ;)

But since Robin and I have invested our annual vacation budget for the next 20 years into our new condo instead - I'm kidding (a little!) - I guess I'll just have to get used to the idea of occasionally dealing with some snow at Christmastime!!

So far the white stuff isn't sticking...and I have my fingers firmly crossed; hopefully (for me, at least!) you won't see it making an appearance on my blog next week!!

Pretty or not: shaggy cardigan, camo shirt, vegan leather leggings, and lace-up heels

Don't you agree that the phrase "I will wear what I like" is the perfect mantra for personal style aficionadas (and aficionados!) dear readers?!

styling a shaggy cardigan with a camo shirt, leather beanie and leggings, and lace-up heels

After taking exception to a journalist's insistence that women over a certain age should no longer wear things like leopard print and oversized sunglasses (huh?) my friend Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb responded with an #iwillwearwhatilike campaign on Instagram...and a weekly blog linkup devoted to exactly that theme!!

We might not all agree about what's considered attractive when it comes to our wardrobe choices - I bet I get some eye rolls when I'm wearing this shaggy Free People cardi! - but "pretty" isn't always what it's about; real personal style is a means of creative self-expression through fashion choices - and it should never be hampered by age or trends...or even gender, for that matter!!

So if you haven't taken part in the "I will wear what I like" linkup before, why not take a moment now to tap that button you see in my sidebar; as you can probably guess, all ages and style choices are more than welcome!!  ;)

Christmas presence: boyfriend jeans with black suede pumps, woolen scarf, and moto jacket

With less than two weeks to go, the countdown to Christmas is definitely on now...isn't it, dear readers??!

styling boyfriend jeans with a moto jacket, heart-patterned woolen scarf, and black suede pumps

As recently as last Saturday, I was a little surprised by how "peaceful" my local shopping mall still seemed to be...but today was certainly a different story!!  That last-minute holiday shopping frenzy I quite look forward to every year has finally begun!!

styling boyfriend jeans with a moto jacket, heart-patterned woolen scarf, and black suede pumps

It would probably be a different story if I had a whole list of people that I needed to shop for; I imagine I'd be totally frazzled instead of enjoying myself!!  But my hubby and I came to an agreement with our friends and family a number of years ago...no presents!!  We've opted instead to spend time (not money!) with the special people in our lives, and it makes for a wonderfully stress-free holiday!!

But I'm quite sure that Robin and I are not the only ones that have eliminated - or at least minimized - the gift-giving part of the season!!  I'd love to hear if you've opted to focus on festive get-togethers for the holidays...or if tearing into those pretty packages on Christmas morning is just waaay too much fun to resist!!

Simply irresistible: printed pants, quilted pleather jacket, and mohair beanie

My hubby surprised me a little this morning with what he said when I stepped into the livingroom..."Oh!  I really like this outfit!!"

styling printed skinny pants with a white tank, quilted faux-leather jacket, platform booties, and a woolen beanie

Don't get me wrong, dear readers - Robin is generous with his compliments, which makes me a very lucky (and very happy!) wife!!  Usually though, he prefers "dressed up" looks over a casual boots-and-jeans combo like this ensemble I put together today.

But I guess a cute look is a cute look; and patterned skinnies instead of basic denim, plus platform booties with their tone-on-tone strap detail, help take my relatively simple outfit into slightly more "special" territory!!

And when it's all topped off with a super-soft and fuzzy mohair beanie??  Well - who could possibly resist that...am I right?!  ;)
