Clockwork: Sheer floral top layered under a chunky turtleneck, with skinny jeans, stiletto booties, and a beanie

I had my first post-surgery follow-up appointment with the periodontist yesterday...and yippee!!  If I continue to heal as well as I have so far, I should have my dental implant work completed by April!!

That'll make it exactly one whole year from the time all the trouble first started with my tooth; and what initially seemed like it would take forever to resolve is now almost (almost!) behind me.  It's a universal truth....even if we feel like we can count on nothing else, those hands on the clock keep on ticking, don't they?!

We're leaving January in the dust this weekend, too; which means that spring is just around the corner!! My hubby and I can't stop talking about getting this beautiful balcony of ours set up with our new outdoor furniture so we can finally use it for something other than a photo-shoot backdrop!!  ;)

Is there anything you are especially looking forward to, dear readers...now that the new year is well and truly underway??  I'd love to hear about your plans!!

Digging this: Fringy midi-skirt, pumps, and plaid flannel shirt

I'm definitely taking my freshly minted wardrobe philosophy to heart, dear readers!!  ;)

styling a plaid flannel shirt with a fringe-embellished midi skirt and pumps

Seriously...How could I possibly be anything but joyful wearing this brand new fringe-embellished skirt and super-soft plaid flannel shirt??  Fringy skirts have been everywhere lately; but until my most recent foray to Forever 21, I hadn't found a version I wanted to call my own. The midi length and envelope styling right here, though??  Just different enough to have me feeling that telltale "spark!!"

And I've been anxious to add another plaid shirt to my collection since well before Christmas; but fussy girl that I am, the patterns and fabrics I was seeing didn't have me falling in love....until - once again! - it was Forever 21 to the rescue!!

The fact that I was able to wear my chic new combo with bare legs and no jacket in January just made me all the happier...and I say that with sincere apologies to all of you who may yet being digging yourselves out from under the Blizzard of 2016!!

Sparks: printed dress, drapey cardigan, knee boots, and floppy hat

Capsule wardrobe.  French wardrobe.  How to edit/purge/organize a wardrobe.  There's a whole lot of ideas out there to help us "manage" a love of personal style and shopping...isn't there, dear readers??

styling a printed shift-dress with a drapey cardigan, knee boots, and a floppy hat

I'll admit that I'm as curious as the next fashionista when it comes to possible new ways to streamline my ever-evolving closet, but something I read recently made me realize that the "magic formula" might not be a formula at all...but simply a matter of pinpointing what pieces truly bring me joy!!

This philosophy of organization, called the KonMari Method, essentially boils down the decision-making process of what to purchase (and what to keep!) to just the one very simple edict.  If that pair of jeans I'm contemplating at H&M genuinely "spark" joy, then they're a valid purchase.  And if those shoes I've owned for years - but have only worn once because they're too tight - nevertheless give me joy??  They deserve a place in my closet, too!!

Can you ever go wrong by making choices based on what you honestly love?!  Do you think that keeping this spark in mind the next time you're shopping - or wardrobe editing! - will make those inevitable "yes or no" decisions a little bit easier??  Let me know how it goes!!

Comfort zone: white tee, khaki skinnies, ankle booties, and grandpa cardigan

I often talk about the merits of experimentation when it comes to putting together interesting outfit combinations (practice makes perfect, right?!)...but sometimes, nothing can beat the comfort of a good ol' standby "uniform!!"

Especially when you're recovering from dental surgery like I am today!!  The second phase of my tooth implant procedure is finally under my belt; and while it's going to be another few months before the final step - aka the "crown" - can happen, the hardest part is over now!!  (To be honest, even yesterday wasn't quite as horrible as the surgery that started it all last spring!!)

So, the go-to ensemble that never fails to make me feel good...even when I'm not exactly feeling good??  It won't be a surprise to my regular readers that pretty much any variation on the "jeans with booties and a cozy sweater" theme qualifies; today I zhuzhed things up with some juicy green, my studded MK bag, and a pair of major hoop earrings!!

Now I hope you'll excuse me while I go put up my feet for a while...I want to be darn sure I'm back in top fighting form for next week's round of outfit photos!!  :)

Practice makes perfect: layered tops, striped pencil skirt, and platform booties

Does blogging about one's personal style actually help improve it??

styling a turtleneck under a plush tee, with a striped pencil skirt and platform booties

This interesting question was recently posed by my friend Catherine on her blog Not Dressed As Lamb... and she included a number of photos from her early years of outfit posting as examples of how her style has changed - and possibly "improved" - since then!!

Now let me just say that I love most of the ensembles she deems cringeworthy; I think they showcase a fearless sense of adventure when it comes to interpreting fashion, and a willingness to let her own taste and individuality shine through.  Granted - they may not be looks that she'd still feel comfortable wearing today...but I'm pretty sure that anyone who's interested in personal style is constantly reworking and updating her (or his!) wardrobe to reflect what makes them happy now.

My verdict??  I think documenting one's experiments with fashion via a blog might play a role in evolving a sense of style - we're supposed to learn from history, after all! - but when everything is said and done, it's the experimenting itself that truly makes for some of the very best personal style statements!!

Obsession: skinny jeans, black-patterned shirt, faux-fur vest, and floppy hat

So, dear readers...are any of you obsessive-compulsive jeans shoppers like I am??

I'm not sure what it is about this particular wardrobe staple...but I always seem to be looking for yet one more pair that's even more comfortable/better fitting/somehow different from all the other ones already folded neatly on their designated shelf in my closet!!

You'd think I would have an enormous collection of jeans by now, which actually couldn't be further from the truth; turns out, I'm just as obsessive about editing my denims as I am about shopping for them!!  My latest inventory count??  Exactly a dozen - including flares, white skinnies, grey skinnies, a black-and-red plaid pair...and a few in various shades of blue!!

Lately, I've been thinking that cropped flares would be a nice addition to my personal denim arsenal; but so far, the pairs I've tried on haven't been exactly flattering.  It's a bit of a tricky silhouette, I know...but I'm nothing if not a determined girl!!  And - of course! - I'll be sharing just as soon as I find them!!  :)

Diving in: red suede envelope skirt, snake-print blouse, and boots with over-the-knee socks

Oh boy...somehow I've managed to push the boundaries of my comfort zone not just once, but twice with my outfit choice today!!

styling a red suede envelope skirt with a snake-print blouse, over-the-knee socks, tall boots, and a sweater coat

My regular visitors know that I'm a major "neutrals" girl...I gravitate to shades of olive and beige and grey - plus that good old classic combo of black and white! - way more than I'm ever attracted to other colours. But there's certainly no denying the impact a pop of brightness can make...and this tomato-red suede envelope skirt has me diving right into the proverbial deep end!!  ;)

And I'm still very much on the fence about the whole "socks as a fashion statement" idea...I've avoided them like the plague for years (even preferring to go barefoot in my shoes during the winter!) but with the over-the-knee trend as strong as it is right now, wearing these long socks with my tall black boots was a (cheater's!) way to take the look for a spin!!

What do you think, dear readers...was this attempt to step out of my personal style "box" a success??  Have you recently tried - or retried - a look that you typically shy way from??  As always, I'd love to hear what you have to say!!

Heart to heart: chunky sweater, skinny jeans, and woolen beanie

I thought my sister and I had an agreement - made quite a while ago! - that we were no longer going to exchange any Christmas gifts...but this year she broke our deal and surprised me!!

This delicate copper pin is handmade out of metal reclaimed from the roofs of old buildings all around New Brunswick (which my sister calls home)...and those intertwined hearts??  She hoped it would be a way for me to keep her close - even though we live on opposite coasts of a very, very big country.

I'll admit right now that her thoughtfulness left me a little teary-eyed; we were best friends growing up, but it's been about ten years since we've resided in the same time zone...and the holidays are when I always miss my family the most.

Now that our yuletide season is over and "regular" life has begun once again, it's a little easier to deal with the reality of being so far apart...but wearing this brooch really does make me feel like I have a little part of my sister right here with me!!

Showtime: leather moto jacket, turtleneck, and flare jeans

I'm sure you didn't expect it would take very long for my new Danier moto jacket to make its next appearance here...and ta-da!!  You were right!!  ;)

styling a motorcycle jacket with a turtleneck and and flare jeans

Since Vancouver's weather has been somewhat "friendlier" over the past few days, my flare jeans and turtleneck combo - together with the jacket, of course! - made a perfect movie date outfit...friends of ours invited Robin and me along to see the latest Star Wars flick!!

Have you been yet, dear readers?!  I certainly wasn't disappointed; it was great fun to watch all the original characters in action once again...and I thought the writers did a terrific job of paying tribute to the first three movies (actually Episodes IV, V, and VI) while introducing a whole new storyline!!

That's all you'll get from me, though; I certainly don't want to be the one to give away the numerous surprises in case you're still planning a trip to the theatre...and haven't had them spoiled for you yet care of some other internet site!!  But if you have seen "The Force Awakens," I'd really love to hear your feedback!!
