Waiting game: printed pants, dotted bow-front blouse, and quilted faux-leather jacket

Happy Leap Day!!  Even though I once again have some outfit photos to share with you, our sweet ferret Fritz is sadly still not back home with us.  :(

Robin and I have been visiting him every day - and we've certainly seen an improvement in his condition - but his veterinarian continues to be concerned that he might block again...so he's actually been going home with her every night for round-the-clock monitoring.

We feel very lucky to have someone so dedicated to his care looking after him, but it's tough tucking his companion into bed each night by himself.  At least we humans understand what's going on...but I'm sure Frecki is feeling more than a little lonely and confused right now.

With any luck, though, today will be the day that fur-baby Fritz is finally good to go...I hope you'll keep thinking of us and sending plenty of positive energy our way, dear readers!!

On the "Fritz"

If you've been a regular visitor for a while now, then you already know that a post without outfit photos is never exactly good news here at StyleIsMyPudding.  :(

You'll remember me mentioning a couple of Fridays ago that Fritzie, one of our little ferrets, had quite unexpectedly developed bladder stones; we'd planned a surgery to have them removed for the following Monday...but on the advice of his doctor, ended up opting for medication that would hopefully dissolve the stones instead.

Things seemed to be going well - other than needing to pee a lot, he was acting his normal playful self - until late Wednesday night.  Suddenly, he couldn't "go" at all...which instantly becomes a very serious situation.  Thank goodness that we have an Animal Emergency Hospital not too far away; at midnight, there really was no other option.  We left him in their capable hands...and at 4:30 yesterday morning, we had a phone call that they'd managed to unblock him.

Surgery was the next step, so after only two hours of sleep, I returned to the Emergency Clinic to pick him up and transfer him to his regular veterinarian.  I'll spare you the all details of that nightmarish trip - I had to stop in the middle of traffic a couple of times to calm him down - but long story short, he had the operation yesterday afternoon and spent the night at the doctor's house for monitoring.

If everything goes according to plan, he'll be home with us by the end of the day today; but for now?? All I can do is keep my fingers crossed that on Monday it's back to my regular schedule of outfit posts...and with some better news to share with you, too!!

Balcony seat: white shirt, skinny jeans, long faux-fur vest, and open-toe booties

I'm kind of in disbelief that it's already the last Wednesday in February (whaaat?)...but the fact that we are one more "hump day" closer to the arrival of spring??  That's making me a seriously happy girl right now!!

You're probably getting sick and tired of hearing how much Robin and I are looking forward to the warmer weather so we can finally start enjoying that spacious balcony of ours...but it honestly seems to be the only thing we can think about lately!!

We've been in our new condo for five whole months now; and at this point, it's feeling very much like "home sweet home"...and not just a fabulous pad we happen to be visiting.  Our outdoor space, however, is still largely uncharted territory!!  As you can probably imagine, tentative plans are already in place for a second housewarming party - complete with patio lanterns and a barbecue!!

Still, we do have something else to celebrate while we're waiting out the rain and the chill - it's my mom's birthday today!!  Happy Birthday, Mumsie...I hope the card we sent you arrived on time!!  :)

Mechanical: jumpsuit, grommet belt, lace-up heels, and moto jacket

Since I hadn't worn this sleeveless, workman-style jumpsuit in a while, I decided it was high time to layer it up and let it work a little of its "tomboy" magic for my look today!!

I've been a fan of adding a masculine element (or three!) to my sartorial ensembles for years now; but a menswear-inspired look from top to toe à la Diane Keaton?  That's something I'm not sure I'll ever be completely comfortable with...even if my personal style motto is "never say never!!"

Which is why I almost always end up balancing the boyishness of this type of outfit with something that's unmistakably feminine...like these edgy but pretty lace-up heels!!  While female mechanics get nothing but respect from me, I don't want to feel like I'm on break from a shift at the auto body shop when I'm standing in line for my Starbucks!!

Danier moto jacket and pink hair! Now I'm wondering, dear readers...do any of you have an outfit "no no" that supersedes both trends and time??  I hope you'll take a moment to share the details!!

Heartbreaker: sequinned sweater with faux-leather leggings, leather beanie, and a military-style parka

I know I'm all smiles in these photos, dear readers...but as an animal lover living here in Vancouver, there've been some news stories over the last couple of weeks that have definitely been tugging at my heartstrings.

The British Columbia branch of the SPCA has recently conducted two separate seizures totalling almost 150 horribly neglected dogs and cats...66 from a puppy mill on February 4th, and another 84 from a different breeding and boarding facility earlier this week.  :(

army parka, leather beanie, and pink hair!

There's a whole lot of injustice and cruelty going on every day in this great wide world of ours - stuff that, quite honestly, often makes staying optimistic about my fellow humans pretty darn challenging.  But doing harm to animals??  There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that there is something seriously wrong with anyone capable of that.

I'll be making a donation to the BCSPCA this weekend to help out with the tens of thousands of dollars of medical care I know those poor pets will require; if you're thinking you might like to make a contribution as well, please don't hesitate to visit their website!!

In the hole: distressed flare jeans, turtleneck, and sweater coat

Because I live and work (and often shop!) all in the same neighbourhood, running into a client when I'm "off duty" is always a possibility...and that's exactly what happened today!!

styling distressed flare jeans with a turtleneck and sweater coat

On this occasion the pet owner was a lady of retirement age who never fails to show up to the veterinary clinic dressed to the nines in timeless classics; and it was obvious that a trip to the mall entailed the same careful wardrobe consideration on her part...right down to the trademark knit beret I've yet to see her without!!

We said hello, and then she gave my outfit - this distressed denim and layered sweater combo - a quick once-over before remarking "your trousers have holes in them, my dear!!"  Of course I had to agree with her...and I couldn't hold back a little smile at her subtle disapproval of my choice in jeans!!

This world would be a boring place indeed if everyone only liked exactly the same things...don't you agree, dear readers?!  ;)

Jumper: plaid flannel maxidress, turtleneck, and floppy hat

So - I'd originally planned to wear a sweater over this plaid-patterned Denim & Supply slipdress...but I'm super glad inspiration struck and I tried layering a turtleneck underneath instead!!  :)

"Lingerie dressing" is trending in a big way for spring; and although my maxi-dress is probably more reminiscent of a flannel nightgown than the lacy and silky camisoles and slips many designers took as inspiration for the coming season, I think there's no doubt that it qualifies!!

But getting a sartorial jumpstart on the warmer weather when it isn't exactly warm yet definitely requires some creativity in the wardrobe department...and layers were the only way I was going to get away with doing spaghetti straps in the middle of February!!

You might be able to tell from my smile that I absolutely adored the result of my latest personal style experiment - but now, dear readers, it's time to deliver your verdict!!  Are you thinking my slipdress and sweater combination is a hit...or a fashion miss??  Leave me a note and let me know!!

P.S. I'm also smiling because my hubby and I got some happy news from the ferret vet this weekend; we're going to try dissolving Fritz's bladder stones with medication...which hopefully means no surgery!!  Yay!!

Overhead: chambray shirt, white skinny jeans, lace-up shoes, and belted furry vest

You know that expression "people plan...God laughs"??  There's certainly a measure of truth to it, isn't there??

styling a chambray shirt and white jeans with lace-up shoes and a belted faux-fur vest

It's been a while since I've mentioned our two ferrets "Fritz" and "Frecki"- they've been doing so well here in our new home with us! - but yesterday we found out that little Fritz has developed a whole bunch of bladder stones.  He's scheduled for surgery on Monday to have them removed; not exactly what Robin and I wanted hanging over our heads for the next few days...that's for sure.  :(

What was the "plan," you ask??  Well, I'd recently received a small windfall in the form of a vacation pay adjustment, and we had something much more fun in mind to spend it on...like a new chandelier for our still empty livingroom ceiling!!

But in the end, of course there's no contest...Fritz's health comes first!!  He's young and strong, so we expect him to come through with flying colours; but if you could spare a moment to think of him, we'd all appreciate any positive energy you could send his way!!

Late show: denim pencil skirt, off-the-shoulder sweater, block-heeled boots, and woolen beanie

Have you seen any good movies recently, dear readers??

styling an acid-wash denim pencil skirt with an off-the-shoulder sweater, block-heeled booties, and a woolen beanie

On Monday I mentioned that Netflix is one of the reasons I'm often up until well past (what's supposed to be!) my bedtime; I'm not a big fan of watching the news - it's always bad, anyways - and very few TV series manage to hold my attention for long...but movies?!  I'm kind of obsessed!!

styling an acid-wash denim pencil skirt with an off-the-shoulder sweater, block-heeled booties, and a woolen beanie

Going to see the latest blockbuster in the theatre is, of course, a whole "experience" unto itself - why is it that even the best homemade popcorn somehow can't compete with the cinema stuff? - but nothing beats the coziness of snuggling under my electric blanket with an entire library of flicks to choose from!!

The newest notch in my movie-watching belt??  "Breakfast at Tiffany's"!!  I'm ashamed to say that I had never seen it before last night; and now that I know what I've been missing, it's pretty obvious that this girl really needs to take a break from her go-to thrillers and sci-fi chillers...and add a few more classics to her repertoire!!
