Crowning glory: denim miniskirt with tights, tall boots, a plaid shirt, and an army jacket

Finally the news I've been waiting - seemingly forever! - to hear!!  I'm getting my crown!!

Now before you go thinking that I've discovered some royal ancestors in my family tree (wouldn't that be something?)...the "crown" I'm talking about is of the dental variety!!  And, alas, it won't even be made of gold!!  ;)

My regular readers will likely remember how traumatized I was when I discovered that I'd fractured a tooth root last spring...which left me with no option but to have it pulled.  At the time, I was absolutely horrified that I'd be "toothless" for an entire year; which is how long this whole implant process takes from start to finish.

But now the year is almost up...and I shall be good as new again within the next few weeks!!  Hurray!!

Mojo: sequinned tee, slouchy cargos, moto jacket, and sherpa bag

How is it that a long weekend can fly by just as quickly as a regular one, dear readers?!

Between trips to Ikea, Homesense, and yet another visit to our favourite garden centre (how many has it been now?) Robin and I certainly managed to make short work of our three days off!!

I'm sure it's only temporary, but I can't believe how completely my focus has shifted from shopping for myself to shopping for our home - more specifically our outdoor space - right now.  It feels like ages since I set foot inside Forever 21 or Winners...even though Winners is often located right next door to the aforementioned Homesense!!

My outfit mojo, though??  That's still with me...or at least I think it is!!  But now I shall leave it to you to decide on the final verdict for my latest look!!

Rabbit season: gingham skirt, funnel-neck sweater, and over-the-knee boots

In my books, nothing heralds the arrival of spring quite like the Easter long weekend...and woohoo!!  It's finally here!!

Of course there's going to be some requisite indulgence in form of chocolate bunnies and foil-wrapped eggs...but because I'm vegetarian (and not much of a cook!) a fancy holiday dinner involving turkey or ham is something that rarely happens at our place; and then only if my hubby is in the mood to play chef!!

But for the past five years or so - enough to call it a "tradition," I suppose! - we've invited the same two couples for Easter Brunch...with crepes, yogurt, real maple syrup, and a colourful fresh fruit salad. Oh - and let's not forget the pineapple mimosas and those festive little chocolate eggs!!  ;)

This year, however, one of the couples is taking full advantage of the extra day off with a little getaway, so brunch has been postponed until next Sunday instead.  What do you think, dear readers ...can I still get away with Easter-themed party favours??  Or should I switch out the candy eggs for chocolate truffles instead?!

P.S. Brunch might be off...but Fun Fashion Friday is definitely on!!  Hope you'll hop on over to Fashion Should Be Fun and join the linkup party!!

Flower show: White floral moto jacket, sheer black floral top, boyfriend jeans, and suede heels

There was another trip to the nursery on the agenda this afternoon, dear readers...so when my husband saw me slipping on my white floral moto jacket and this pair of suede heels, he gave me a quizzical look and asked "um, where's your gumboots?!"

Since I don't actually own a pair of rubber boots, his question was a moot point...but it did have me wondering whether I might be the only girl in the world who "dresses up" for venues more typically associated with gardening gloves and muddy coveralls!!

It was (once again!) gushing with rain today...but because we were choosing plants for our brand new balcony rail baskets from the safety of a sheltering greenhouse, I actually felt quite appropriate in my flowery, spring-inspired look.

Besides, I'm not much help when it comes to slinging 50-pound bags of soil into the trunk of our car...even in more "practical" footwear!!  ;D

Green party: vegan leggings and quilted jacket with wedge booties and a mohair beanie

Did any of you get to partake in some St. Patrick's Day festivities this weekend, dear readers??

My boss is Gaelic, so you can bet the celebration is a pretty big deal at his place every year...complete with a genuine Irish band!!  Guests are encouraged to participate in the evening's entertainment as well; songs are sung, poems are recited, and all kinds of interesting talents are presented - speed potato peeling, anyone?!

I'm not brave (or gifted!) enough to sing a solo in front of a crowd, but I have recited a Shakespearean sonnet from memory before; and this year, I presented a little zoology lesson to everyone featuring my fave furry creatures...ferrets, of course!!  ;)

And Robin??  He blew our fellow partiers away by joining a rousing rendition of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" on his harmonica!!  Who knows...next year, the boss may not even need to hire that band!!  :D

View to a thrill: grey skinnies, white shirt, long cardigan, and strappy shoes

The city of Vancouver makes regular appearances on many "most beautiful places to live" lists year after year...and even though you'll probably call me biased, I totally agree!!

I grew up in a flat and landlocked suburb of Toronto; but as far back as I can remember, I'd dreamed of the mountains and ocean - not to mention the temperate climate! - of Canada's wonderfully picturesque west coast.  Never mind that I don't ski or swim...it was (and still is) all about getting to enjoy some of Mother Nature's most stunning vistas firsthand!!

Of course, living beachfront will likely never become a reality for us - not when the price for a merely "average" Vancouver home is a cool one million dollars! - but Robin and I were absolutely thrilled to discover that we have a much-coveted mountain view from the livingroom window of our new condo... something we'll be enjoying even more as we head towards summer!!

By the way - the photos of our place that I promised you back when we first moved??  I swear they're still coming; I just want to wait until we have the fog and gloom that makes up a typical Vancouver winter well behind us!!

P.S. I certainly don't have to wait to start this weekend off on the right foot...and neither do you!!  Join me in a visit to Fashion Should Be Fun for the latest Fun Fashion Friday linkup!!

Throwing stones: sequinned tee with patterned pants, a layered plaid shirt and sweater, and felt fedora

You might be thinking that you've noticed a shortage of shopping posts around here lately, dear readers...and you'd be right on with that particular observation!!  ;)

It isn't so much that I haven't been shopping; it's just that the focus of my recent forays has shifted from clothing and accessories to patio accessories...like those planters I mentioned on Monday!!

Robin and I have a mile-long wish list for turning our rooftop terrace - the word "balcony" seriously doesn't do it justice! - into the outdoor oasis of our dreams; but after fur baby Fritz's emergency veterinary bills, we're just going to have to pace ourselves a bit.

At least our little guy is feeling good right now...even though the x-ray he had on Monday shows that his bladder stones have once more moved into his urethra.  Now if only he'd finally pee those darn things out and be done with it!!

Spring ahead: boyfriend jeans, v-neck sweatshirt, and statement shoes and bag

My hubby and I spent most of yesterday afternoon at our favourite nursery choosing planters and plants for our balcony...but it (still!) looks like it's going to be some time yet before we get to enjoy our much anticipated outdoor space!!

styling boyfriend jeans with a v-neck sweatshirt, pony hair bag, and lace-up heels

In fact, most of the weekend felt positively winterish again; we had everything from hail to gale-force winds to enough rain to qualify - I'm convinced! - as a monsoon!!

At least we're back to Daylight Savings Time again, which means it won't be dark when I get home from work anymore...yippee!!  Of course there's exactly the same number of hours in each day regardless of the season, but somehow it feels like there's an extra bit of evening to enjoy when the sun doesn't already set at 5:00 pm!!

If our Vancouver weather forecast holds out, we have a much "friendlier" weekend ahead to look forward to...but honestly??  I've learned not to hold my breath!!  ;)

Style 3-Play: Striped Shirtdress Look Three

If Look One was all about the details of my new striped shirtdress, and Look Two was my fave shirtdress combination...then today's outfit (the final look of this Style 3-Play!) is certainly my most experimental!!

styling a striped shirtdress under a fringy midi skirt with stiletto booties and a zebra-patterned bag

To be honest, I've been dying to try a skirt-over-dress ensemble like this - where the bottom of the dress peeks out from under a shorter skirt - and the knee-length hemline of my shirtdress presented the perfect opportunity to give it a go!!

styling a striped shirtdress under a fringy midi skirt with stiletto booties and a zebra-patterned bag

It adds an unexpected twist to this otherwise rather "classic" outfit, don't you think??  The only challenge was keeping all the fabric of the dress nice and smooth under the narrow skirt; I may have to invest in a silky slip to wear between the two layers for the next time I try a combination like this!!

Now I'm hoping you'll let me know how you liked this latest instalment of my Style 3-Play feature, dear readers...I'm always so happy to hear from you!!
