Mall rats: skinny jeans, drapey top, shrunken cardi, western-style booties, and floral beanie

Here it is - the final outfit combination for my Toronto capsule wardrobe series!!

But have I actually worn this cute ensemble since I've been here??  No I haven't...not when temperatures have been topping out at 34 ºC (93 ºF) for the past couple of days!!

I'm certainly not one to complain about the heat, but it's definitely a bit too much for my parents...so we've been heading to a different mall almost every afternoon for some time to "cool off."  Honestly??  I couldn't ask for a better holiday...it's like the shopping version of Disneyland!!  ;)

Now I'm just waiting for a really rippin' thunderstorm to finish off my T.O. experience; we don't get them in Vancouver...and aside from my family, it's the one thing about living "back east" that I truly miss!!

Hot stuff: striped pencil skirt, cropped sweatshirt, reptile pumps and envelope clutch

Thank goodness I opted to cover my bases and include some (very) warm weather pieces when I packed my suitcase for Toronto, dear readers!!

All my carefully considered sweater and jacket combinations have yet to see the light of day; with temperatures continuing to hover around 30 ºC - that's 86 ºF! - I've actually been reluctant to layer at all...with the exception of the sunblock that I tossed into my carry-on bag as an afterthought!!

In fact, my parents and I have been heading to the mall every afternoon for a little air-conditioned relief from the heat...and my mom and I have definitely been taking advantage of our shopping time together!!

Later today I'll be meeting up with my favourite cousin for dinner and even more retail therapy...I have a feeling that the "expander" on my suitcase is going to come in mighty handy once it's time to head back home to Vancouver again!!  :)

Weather or not: grey skinnies, bow-front blouse, denim jacket, and reptile pumps

As I mentioned on Monday, dear readers - I'm kind of going to be in two places at once for the next week or so!!

I'm hanging out in Toronto for a little visit with my parents; but here in the blogosphere, I'm also in Vancouver, sharing another of my travel wardrobe combinations with you!!  This particular double denim ensemble (with my grey jeans instead of blue!) would have been a wonderfully "city chic" outfit for the afternoon of shopping my mom and I indulged in this afternoon...

...if we'd been having the kind of weather that southern Ontario normally experiences during May!! Instead, we have - or at least I have! - been enjoying a genuine heat wave, with temperatures hovering around 30 ºC!!  That's 86 ºF...otherwise known as really, really warm!!

Toronto isn't exactly what most people consider to be a "vacation hotspot"... but right now??  I'm not even missing the beach!!  ;)

Time travel: black maxi skirt, dotted blouse, cat-eye sunglasses, and reptile envelope clutch

Is it possible to be in two places at the same time??  Apparently it is...if you happen to be a dedicated personal style blogger!!  ;)

In "real life" I am now snugly settled at my parents' place in Toronto for a little vacation...but I'm also here, in my Vancouver neighbourhood, modelling a dressed up version of the jersey maxi skirt that I eventually did opt to include as part of my take-along wardrobe!!

While it's unlikely that I'll be attending anything more formal that a lunchtime get-together with family while I'm hanging out in T.O., it never hurts to be prepared for every possibility; and by combining the skirt with my dotted blouse and accessorizing with this reptile-embossed maroon envelope clutch, I've managed to create a look that wouldn't be out of place for an evening at the theatre!!

And as far as being dedicated??  Well, I may be on holiday - and I may have left my hubby/photographer at home to hold the fort! - but I've made sure to line up enough travel wardrobe combos to tide you over until I return!!  See you on Wednesday!!  :)

Maximize: black maxi skirt, slouchy white tee, and shrunken cardigan

Here's one final capsule wardrobe quandary before I leave, dear readers...is this black maxi skirt a "yay" or a "nay" for my upcoming excursion to Toronto??

styling a black jersey maxi skirt with a slouchy white tee and shrunken cardigan

I'm all about having as many outfit options as possible when I'm away from home, so even though I'll likely be living in jeans for most of my visit with my family, a skirt like this - in a wrinkle-resistant jersey - would be an easy piece to take along just in case I'm in the mood for something other than denim!!

By pairing it with my white v-neck tee and a lightweight shrunken cardigan, I think I've got a look that'll work for a casual coffee meet-up with my favourite cousin; I've even accessorized with a Starbucks cup today as a trial run!!  ;)

Since departure day is this Sunday, I'd better stop with the sartorial uncertainty and make up my mind already...so of course I'm all ears if there's any last-minute packing advice you'd like to share with me!!

Guess again: boyfriend jeans, long cardigan, reptile pumps, and floppy hat

On Monday I mentioned that even though I was already "second guessing" a few of the items I'd selected for my Toronto capsule wardrobe, these boyfriend jeans were likely to stay in the mix...and I'd say this cute combo definitely clinches it!!

In fact, my entire ensemble - from grey felt hat to cozy long cardigan to reptile-print pumps - is going to be heading back east with me...for sure!!  Those shoes have a go-with-everything versatility I would be crazy not to take advantage of; and that cardi will make the perfect wearable blanket for the often unpleasantly chilly temperatures of an airplane cabin.

And my floppy fedora??  Well, I couldn't possibly go an entire ten days without a hat...now could I?!

Prerogative: boyfriend jeans, slouchy tee, bomber jacket, and ankle-strap sandals

I knew this was going to happen!!  My trip to Toronto is still one week away...and even though I had my travel wardrobe all planned out, I've already changed my mind about a couple of the pieces that I'm going to take along!!

styling a slouchy tee and boyfriend jeans with a bomber jacket and ankle-strap sandals

That's the downside - for me, at least -  of already having worn a particular outfit once; I suddenly develop the sartorial equivalent of "been there, done that" syndrome...and I simple have to switch things up a bit!!

At this point, I'm reasonably sure that my boyfriend jeans, white tee, and bomber jacket will still make the cut...but I'm thinking that I might trade out my white sandals for a pair of black ones.  White just seems awfully "optimistic" for springtime back east!!

But tell me, dear readers...am I the only fashionista in the blogosphere that's adverse to wearing exactly the same combination twice?!  I doubt that I am...but I'd love to have you confirm my suspicions!! ;)

Airtime: plaid flannel shirt, white t-shirt, grey skinny jeans, and booties

As promised, dear readers - Outfit Possibility Number Two featuring my trip-to-Toronto capsule wardrobe!!

styling a white tee and plaid flannel shirt with skinny jeans and western-inspired booties

You saw my plaid flannel shirt and cowgirl-inspired booties combined with a striped pencil skirt for a bit of a "dressed up" look on Wednesday...but today's look - with grey skinny jeans and a slouchy white tee - is decidedly more casual.

styling a white tee and plaid flannel shirt with skinny jeans and western-inspired booties

It's taken me a looong time to truly appreciate the versatility of the classic button-down shirt; and even though I'll never not be a "sweater girl" at heart, any top that can be layered over another top as a pseudo jacket makes for a total vacation-take-along no-brainer!!

And speaking of sartorial classics??  I think skinny jeans have earned their way into that particular hall of fame by now, don't you agree?!  This extra-comfy pair will serve double duty not only by allowing me to navigate airport security in style...but also by hiding those hideous compression socks the doctor insists I wear during my cross-country flight!!  Ahhh, the joys of travelling by air!!

Easy does it: plaid shirt, striped pencil skirt, and western-style booties

Here we are...the first outfit combination created with some of the pieces that will be making up my Toronto travel wardrobe!!

styling a plaid shirt with a striped pencil skirt and western-inspired booties

This plaid shirt, striped pencil skirt (actually more of a "tube" skirt, since it pulls on without a zipper) and ankle booties ensemble looks surprisingly dressed up considering the major ease factor; the stretchy skirt is virtually wrinkle-proof - always a bonus when you're on holiday! - and the shirt is flannel, so it'll be cozy even if the weather back east isn't quite up to Vancouver standards just yet!!

My parents usually plan to get together with my aunts and uncles at one of their favourite restaurants while I'm visiting, and I'm thinking that this would be the perfect option for a family date; there's no doubt that I've "made an effort"...but I can also very comfortably go for seconds at the dessert bar if the mood strikes!!  ;)

Of course the flannel shirt and booties will be ideal for a much more casual, stay-at-home kind of outfit, too; you'll want to come back on Friday to see how I make that combination work!!

Pack attack: printed pants, dotted blouse, floral moto jacket, and studded white sandals

My trip to Toronto is a mere two weeks away as of yesterday...which means that "packing anxiety" is in high gear over here, dear readers!!

styling patterned jeans and a dotted blouse with a floral moto jacket and white ankle-strap sandals

Since Robin won't be coming with me to visit my parents - he's actually on Vancouver Island right now spending a week with his mom - we've already photographed a bunch of cute outfit options featuring the little capsule wardrobe I've pretty much decided on...with the exception of those few last-minute changes that are bound to happen, of course!!  ;)

styling patterned jeans and a dotted blouse with a floral moto jacket and white ankle-strap sandals

You'll be seeing my first "official" combination on Wednesday...but today I'm giving you a little sneak preview of two pieces that will for sure (I think!) be making it into my suitcase - this polka-dotted blouse from Zara, and my still brand new ankle-strap sandals!!

patterned jeans, white ankle-strap sandals, slate blue clutch

With my entire closet at my disposal for the time being, I felt brave enough to step out in a rather colourful combination today; but my looks over the next few weeks will be staying much more in my comfort zone of neutrals for mix-and-match-ability.  Still, I think you'll be surprised by the mileage I'll be able to get out of my vacation wardrobe choices...so be sure to stay tuned!!
