Determination: Styling a tank top and flare jeans with a long cardi and faux-fur vest

Like the determined daffodils and Japanese cherry trees that have finally started to bloom here in Vancouver, I decided to give up waiting on warmer weather today...and stubbornly went with some summery boho elements in my outfit!!

Not that it isn't possible to rock a bit of a "hippie" vibe even in the middle of winter....but there's something about the season of road trips and music festivals that just naturally goes with a wardrobe of faded flares, tank tops, and layered necklaces, don't you think??  I really wanted to do this combo sans sweater, but sadly there's just no way I can go sleeveless yet...even with a furry vest!!  Brrr!!

These jeans are technically new - although I've worn them practically non-stop since I found them at Winners a couple of weeks ago for only $20! - and they bring my tally of flared denim to a total of four.  What can I say?? I have a bit of an obsession with jeans of every style...and I'm always on the lookout for my next "perfect" pair!!

Are you a can't-do-without-em denim diva (or divo!) as well, dear readers??  Do you stick to a particular silhouette or do you let the mood of the day decide if it will be flares or skinnies, dark wash or distressed??  I hope you'll find a moment to leave me a little note...I always love hearing from you!! 😍

  1. You know I'm a denim girl too, Monika .. and that I love flared hems! You look wonderful and your pink hair is really starting to get me thinking … hmm …. But anyway! It's actually cold in California this week, so I empathize. Ready for warm weather for sure!

  2. You always rock your jeans, Monica. That duster sweater is awesome and I love all your jewelry - the dainty rings and especially the earrings. Looking lovely. =)

Welcome by and join my brand-new linkup this week. I love your style. Thanks, Ada. =)

  4. I am enjoying a visit to my BFF in So Cal for a few days. Probably my last chance to comfortably wear my favorite long skinny jeans, as the weather in AZ is now late spring stuff-- 90+ for highs. Only crops will do in that weather, unless I roll the legs of full length denim. Which I do!

I'd love to wear flares but haven't found any the work properly for my short legs. But you look amazing in yours!

  6. I am a straight/skinny girl only when it comes to jeans. Part of it has to do with being an 80s teen when wearing anything other than skinny was seen as an unforgiveable fashion faux pas. Part of it is a holdover from weird sensory issues I had as a kid. I couldn't stand the feeling of fabric "flapping between my legs" back when my age was in single digits. I wore nothing but skirts or shorts until I was about 8 or 9. I also just find flares add too much bulk to my lower half and don't really flatter me. I'm kind of apple shaped (carry most of my excess weight in boobs and belly) and have good legs, so I tend to prefer a larger-on-top-slim-on-the-bottom silhouette. I think at times I put myself in a rut though. What is "flattery" anyway? Covering what is "wrong" with my body? Maybe I should stop thinking something about my body is wrong and play more with other silhouettes.

    1. Oh do, do, DO experiment with other silhouettes, dear Rachel!! Just like all skinny jeans are not created equally - I'm sure you find that some fit you much better than others! - flare jeans (as an example) from one brand to another will "wear" differently. I'm such a firm believer in having fun with fashion; if you really want some flares, keeping trying them on and trying them on until you find a pair that make you go "woohoo!"...and that confidence is guaranteed to have you looking great!! :)
