Breaking a sweat

I truly was in a sweat when I headed to the checkout counter with these pants, dear readers…what was I doing with a pair of joggers in my hands?!

This style was “not for me” for the longest time; but as it so often happens with matters of fashion, they’d slowly been growing more and more appealing.  I’ll admit to trying on a random pair over the past few months; but the silhouette and gathered waistband are definitely a bit tricky…and until now, I hadn’t found any that were even remotely flattering.

Now “flattering” is a relative term here; after all, this kind of slouchy fit doesn’t do much to enhance the figure.  But the darker panel of fabric on each side narrows them just a little visually…and together with the piping detail, it gives them almost a tuxedo pant feel, don’t you think??

And the clincher??  I found them at Forever 21 for a grand total of $23.80…that’s less than a pair of real sweatpants at an athletics store!!  Now that’s the way to make a super-trendy look your own!!

(P.S. I checked online…but unfortunately, these particular joggers don’t seem to be available anymore. You never know, though; you might still be able to find them at your local Forever 21!!)

I love this look dear Monika! I have to admit that I usually hate sweatpants (outside of the gym that is), but these look incredibly stylish and flattering. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas despite everything and I wish you a fantastic new year! 🙂

If you had asked me a year ago, dearest Anett, I would have said "no way!" to pants like this…and now look at me!! 😉 But a big part of the fun of fashion is the way it can change our minds about what we like, don't you think?! Thank you so much for your lovely holiday wishes…I'm sending you the same in return!! XOXO

I'd originally planned to style these joggers with a much more fitted top, dear Kelsey and Kenecha…you know, to help balance out their slouchy silhouette. But I think the cropped shape of my mohair sweater worked to provide some really fun contrast, too; and yes…it was super cozy!! 🙂

I love it, Monika! Very stylish, comfy, fashion forward and oh so adorable! I don't think that we must wear flattering shapes at all times. We have different moods and needs and desire to express different sides of ourselves through clothing. This is such a fun youthful and a bit edgy look, and it really suits you. Not to mention this gorgeous green sweater which will make any outfit amazing in my book. You are a very creative dresser! Happy New Year!! xxx

I happen to think that you have a wonderful flair for outfits, too, dearest Natalia…so I take your compliment in high regard!! And I totally agree…there are "flattering" looks and there are "cool" looks; and depending on the mood of the day, one or the other will end up winning out!! Here's to a healthy and Happy New Year for you and your family as well!! XO

You know what? i like them on you Monika, but i think you can wear a lot of stuff with panache!
I have seen those joggers worn with heels, shirt and a classic jacket, somehow it worked!

That's a wonderful compliment, dear Ariane…thank you so much!! I've already tried out my sweatpants with a button-front shirt – and really liked that combination as well – but today I wanted the extra snuggle factor of a chunky sweater on top!! 🙂
