Tonal

Whenever I feel like my outfit for the day is somehow not quite finished enough…my favourite olive-green leather beanie always comes to the rescue!!

Today it was the proverbial “cherry on the sundae” to the tone-on-tone combination of this olive marled sweater (I’m wearing another sweater underneath for extra warmth!) tucked into my olive pleather skater skirt.  Those chocolate-hued boots and the tights don’t stray too far from this neutral palette, either; but there is one tiny pop of brightness…care of the chartreuse cuffs on my gloves!!

So…obviously not a lot of colour.  But oh!!  Look at all those marvellous textures and patterns!!  There’s cable knit and rib knit; shiny leather and matte suede; plus leopard-print  – and even studs! – on my nylon backpack!!

But now, dear readers…what’s your verdict on this monochromatic ensemble??  Are you a fan of the tonal look, or do you find it a little bit boring??  I’m as anxious as always to hear your opinions!!

Oh blast, my last comment didn't take. Okay, lets try that again! 😉 Just wanted to say, I LOVE the pop of colour, most brilliant idea and can't wait to try it myself. Also, as for the perfect topper? Totally feel that way about my floppy hat. Always perf!! Happiest sunny day to you lovey!! xoxo

Glad I'm not the only one whose comments occasionally just vanish into thin air, dearest Veronika…what the heck, right?! And I've been in rough shape for the past couple of days with a bad cold; so I'm really hoping that this weekend sees me fully recovered and able to get out and enjoy it!! But on a brighter note…how great is it to have that one reliable piece that's ALWAYS the ideal finishing touch for any look!! I agree that your floppy hat certainly qualifies!! 🙂

Far from boring, Monika – so much fun with textures, you are truly a master! But I have to admit that the chartreuse accent, as well as your unique beanie, really complete it for me! I guess it's just something unexpected, and I like surprises. xxx

I quite literally slept the whole day away yesterday, dear Natalia – trying to get over this nasty cold I managed to catch! – so I apologize for the late response to your note!! Yes…it's TOTALLY those little "unexpected" details in an outfit that can make it truly stand out; I guess you could say I'm a fan of surprises, too!! XOXO

That touch of chartreuse elevates the outfit to a whole new level, I absolutely love it! i use the same trick, by the way – whenever I'm not happy with my look, I just add a hat 😀

I can't believe that I didn't like wearing hats until just a few years ago, dearest Anett…they are such wonderful personality pieces, aren't they?! Unfortunately, though, they don't keep you from catching a cold…despite what my mom told me when I was growing up!! 😉

Dear Kelsey and Kenecha…one of the nicest things about a closet FULL of neutrals is that everything just naturally works really well together!! 😉 I'm going to continue trying to add some slightly more colourful outfits to my repertoire, too; but I think a monochromatic look like this will always be a go-to for me!! XOXO

Tone-on-tone ensembles are often considered to be rather sophisticated, dearest Dawn…but I think I managed to keep things a little playful, too, with the addition of my beanie and those gloves!! So happy that you like it!! 😀

I love this shade of olive, would like to get something in this colour. The touch of brights in this look is a genius idea.

    • January 11, 2015 / 10:07 pm

Olive has been a favourite colour of mine for almost as long as I can remember, dear Imogen!! When I was a little girl, I once insisted on having two pairs of shoes in just this shade of green…and I remember being heartbroken when I grew out of them!! XO
