Movie night

Am I the only one who was a little underwhelmed by the gowns that walked the Oscar red carpet this year, dear readers??

There were some pretty dresses to be sure…but none of them really took my breath away; kind of disappointing for the night that LuckyShops bills as “the most glamorous evening of the year!!”

Of course, the opportunity to wear any one of those designer confections would still be an absolute dream-come-true for me…and very probably for many of you, too!!  They’re genuine works of art that just happen to be conceived from yards of fabric instead of paint and canvas; and like pieces that might be displayed in a gallery, I can appreciate them even if I don’t really “get” them!!

Have any of you ever been fortunate enough to play princess in a truly over-the-top creation worthy of the Oscars??  Maybe you even have one taking pride of place in your personal wardrobe this very minute?? Please share!!

You are right the dresses this year were just ok. I did love Scarlett's necklace so much though! Your outfit is so cool and chic! I love that fringed sweater!

It might not be a ball gown, dearest Rebecca…but this sweater/coat hybrid from Free People has a special place in my heart!! I love the swingy shape and the fringes – of course! – and the fact that it was a birthday gift from my husband a few years ago!! P.S. If I remember correctly, I think Scarlett's "necklace" was actually a part of her dress…so cool!! XOXO

I totally agree I found the dresses were beautiful but nothing WOW worthy. I did however loved JLO's look!
This cardi is so stunning, love the print. Also the print of your shirt is just as nice, love these 2 together 🙂 Your hat totally completes this look xx

Did you see Ms. Lopez's after-party look, dearest Kelsey and Kenecha?? It was a much slinkier variation of her beaded, nude-toned Oscar look…and probably a fair bit easier for her to move around in!! Glad you like my outfit, too…even though it wasn't a "red carpet" moment!! ;D

I love everything about this outfit! The hat (I still have NO hat!! must change this looks great on you) the boots, the blouse and the jacket! Ah of course.. the bag! <3 You look absolutely lovely like alway dear friend 🙂
And yes.. you´re right.. I also have no favorite dress from the Oscars. The dress from Lady Gaga was ugly, this strange sleeves. Don´t understand that, they have so much money and so many selection and stylist.. and than many dresses not really looking good. Perhaps next year it´s better 😉

have a wonderful and sunny week
    Dana 🙂

Oh, dearest Dana…you really must join the "hat club" one of these days!! When you find one that you love, you'll never want to take it off…I promise!! 😉 And as far as the Oscar gown choices go, I imagine that actresses are often encouraged to wear something that makes a statement…which might not always coincide with our idea of what's traditionally "beautiful." Nowadays the red carpet is a true "high fashion" show, after all!! XOXO

I didn't watch much of the Oscars at all but I was wowed by J Lo's gown for sure.
You on the other hand are rocking this fringe sweater!! I was walking in town yesterday and saw someone wearing one a lot like this and wanted to run up to her and ask her where she found such a beauty.

    • February 26, 2015 / 6:44 pm

I found my sweater in a little specialty shop in North Vancouver, dearest Joni…but since then we've had an actual Free People boutique open up in town!! It's heaven on earth…but I have to limit my visits, or my budget would be in serious jeopardy!! 😉 And I totally agree that JLo's gown was one of the best of the evening!!

Love this cool boho look … great cardi/wrap! No red carpet-ish moments for me … my life is pretty darn California casual! See you Friday for the link up!

Of course – as a fellow Free People fan! – I knew you'd love this fringy cardigan, dearest Dawn!! And there's certainly nothing wrong with a cute "Cali casual" outfit…it's a look I've been known to emulate on more than a few occasions!! ;D

I went to Goodwill last night and bought a dress for $5.99! And another one for $3! I sure will be playing princesses soon!! :))) Lovely hat and cardi, and adorable chiffon blouse! xxx

I say it sooo often, dearest Natalia…I wish we had a good thrift/vintage store in our neighbourhood!! I just KNOW I'm missing out!! Naturally, I'm on pins and needles to see the new treasures that you've found for yourself, though…two "princess" dresses for under a total of ten bucks?! Wow!! XOXO

Probably my fanciest dress was for our wedding… or once in awhile I'll host a New Years Party and dress super fancy. In fact, I may need to do that for this year. Wearing ridiculous dresses?! Is one of my favourite things ever! 😉 As for your outfit? Oh my gosh, you're hitting it out of the park. Looking totally boho fabulous! xo

    • March 2, 2015 / 6:38 am

I was just thinking how fun it would be to host a "fancy" cocktail party, dearest Veronika; that way, EVERYONE would be dressed up for a change…not just me!! 😉
