Christmas presence: boyfriend jeans with black suede pumps, woolen scarf, and moto jacket

With less than two weeks to go, the countdown to Christmas is definitely on now…isn’t it, dear readers??!

As recently as last Saturday, I was a little surprised by how “peaceful” my local shopping mall still seemed to be…but today was certainly a different story!!  That last-minute holiday shopping frenzy I quite look forward to every year has finally begun!!

It would probably be a different story if I had a whole list of people that I needed to shop for; I imagine I’d be totally frazzled instead of enjoying myself!!  But my hubby and I came to an agreement with our friends and family a number of years ago…no presents!!  We’ve opted instead to spend time (not money!) with the special people in our lives, and it makes for a wonderfully stress-free holiday!!

But I’m quite sure that Robin and I are not the only ones that have eliminated – or at least minimized – the gift-giving part of the season!!  I’d love to hear if you’ve opted to focus on festive get-togethers for the holidays…or if tearing into those pretty packages on Christmas morning is just waaay too much fun to resist!!

And purchasing Christmas gifts simply because it's become the "expected" thing to do adds an awful lot of pressure to the holiday equation, dearest Jodie!! This time of year should be about love and togetherness…not a competition to see who gives – and gets – the best presents!! XOXO

I love that: Christmas PRESENCE. What a gift it is to be present with those we love. Sometimes there is such wisdom in language!

I quite enjoy coming up with titles for my blog posts, dearest Linda!! Often they're a lighthearted (even silly!) play on words…but there's definitely a bit more meaning behind this one!! XOXO

I wish I could say we don't buy, but we do and we always say we should buy less… BUT… a lot of what we buy tends to be orientated around things like photo books or else made like quilts. By the way, I am slightly jealous of you living in the beautiful city of Vancouver. I lived near Calgary for a couple of years and still celebrate Canada Day to this day (which is probably a bit sad!)

If you know the gift is something the recipient will really love or be able to use, then I'm all for it, dear Clare!! But I think there's an awful lot of "thoughtless" shopping that happens at this time of year…"I don't know what to get Uncle Bob/the copy guy/my neighbour, so I'll buy any old thing; they can always return it!!" That just feels sooo wrong to me!! P.S. Vancouver (actually, Canada in general!) is a pretty wonderful place to live…I don't think it's weird at all that you still celebrate your stay in Calgary by popping a cork on July 1st!! ;D
