As I’m watching our ferret Fritz do his “chicken dance” while he (very impatiently!) waits for my husband to heat up his meal for him, I realize that it’s been a while since I updated you on his progress!! Shame on me!!
My regular readers will certainly remember that we had to make a midnight trip to the Animal Emergency Hospital back in February when poor Fritzie, who’d been diagnosed with bladder stones only a few weeks earlier, suddenly blocked.
After surgery and a four night stay in the care of our ferret vet, he came home to us with a number of stones very unfortunately still lodged in his urethra…and we’ve been medicating him ever since with the hope of dissolving them!! That “chicken dance” I mentioned?? That’s our name for the way he gets sooo excited about the medicine-hiding gruel of chicken baby food and water that we trick him with – oops, I mean feed him! – every morning and evening.
And of course we can’t have his brother Frecki feeling left out…so he gets his own bowl of (unmedicated) soup right along with Fritz!! Something tells me that a flat of baby food will stay on our shopping list even after the bladder stone issue is resolved; the “chicken dance” is worth all our repeated explanations in the checkout lineup that no, ferrets actually don’t need some fruits and vegetables in their diet as well!! ;D
