As a kid growing up in the outskirts of Toronto (which has no geographical features of note, except maybe the Scarborough Bluffs!) I always thought that it would be amazing to live somewhere near the ocean…or the mountains…or heck, even a really big river would do!!
Now that I’m here in Vancouver, I’m lucky enough to be super close to all three…with the “Mighty Fraser” practically just a stone’s throw away. The delta of a major river isn’t always traditionally pretty, but it’s certainly always interesting; there’s tiny tugboats hauling massive floating logs, barges carrying shipping containers from all over the world…and lots and lots of bridges!!
So it’s kind of the definition of “industrial.” But nature finds a way of being present, too; Robin and I have seen the occasional adventurous seal bobbing along in the often choppy water…and today there was the surprise of this bank of wildflowers in full bloom!!
Plus, there’s the magical way that everything – even a working shipyard – looks lovelier in the warm glow of summer sunshine!! Our shortage this year means I’m drinking it in when I can…safely slathered in some serious SPF, of course!! 😉
