Ocean view: how to style a summer slip dress for autumn

Even though I’m not exactly the “outdoorsy” type – I’ll take hiking the local shopping mall over hiking a mountain trail any day – there’s definitely something to be said for an afternoon drive to enjoy the splendour that is Canada’s West Coast!!

Lululemons and athletic shoes are not an option for my kind of road trip, though…it’s high heels all the way for this girl!!  And while it might make an impromptu stroll on the beach a little precarious, today the views (and a perfect photo op!) simply couldn’t be denied!!

The striped turtleneck and my grey skinny jeans actually looked really cute on their own – with the help of my major footwear, of course! – but for today’s vehicular adventure I opted to up the style ante juuust a bit more….

…by playing the layering game with this patterned, wrap-front slip dress!!  I think the surprise of some denim peaking out with every stride takes this look from merely pretty to pretty sweet, don’t you agree??  As always, I’m looking forward to your comments!!

P.S. A very Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian readers!!

Wow, that really works! You pushed the envelope a bit and I love it! I keep thinking I need some sort of slip dress–and if I ever get one, I am going to try this sort of combination out. And I love the backdrop–gorgeous. In fact, I have a little trip to the Pacific NW planned next week (Seattle to see my son) and Calgary (for work) and your photos are giving me yet another reason to be excited for that.

Personally, I adore both being out in nature and visiting the stores. I try to do more of the former and less of the later, as being healthier for my body, soul, and bank balance, lol!

Seattle is a beautiful city, dearest Linda…how lovely that you have the perfect reason (your son!) to spend some time there!! But I hope you don't get "snowed in" while visiting Calgary; believe it or not, they've already had the white stuff make an appearance there!! P.S. I probably should make more of an effort to enjoy the great outdoors, too…but what can I say?? I can't seem to resist the siren call of the mall!! 😀

The weather gods were good to us this day, dearest Nancy…it was actually quite summery!! And with the whole "dress over pants" thing having a moment right now, I was both looking forward to experimenting with the trend…and delighted with my finished ensemble!! So glad that you like it, too!! XOXO
