While I don’t often do a lot of colour when it comes to my ensembles, I am a major fan of texture…which is, of course, a proven way to add visual interest to a tone-on-tone outfit. But is it possible to have too much of a good thing?? I used to think it was; but in my quest to make 2018 my most sartorially fearless (and inspiring!) year yet, I decided to take on the challenge of proving myself wrong.
And so I present to you my first experiment in serious textural layering – a blue-grey, faux-fur, cable-knit scarf on top of a fluffy camel sweater!! That scarf is definitely not a subtle style statement, is it?? Calling it merely “oversized” is actually rather anticlimactic…this baby is HUGE!! But it’s also what makes it so awesome; that, and the cool combination of furriness and chunky knit. I certainly won’t ever need to reach for a hat when I opt for this über cozy wrap; in fact, I don’t think I’d even be able to find enough available “head space” to wear one!!
And when it comes to providing some additional warmth without resorting to a more expected jacket or coat, this scarf is the perfect choice. I loved the way my favourite fluffy sweater looked tucked into these military-inspired trousers to show off my embroidered belt; I really didn’t want to cover it up with any outerwear. But it’s January after all – brrr – which makes an extra layer kind of a non-negotiable!!
So yes – fuzzy knit plus cable-knit plus plush fur make for whole lot of texture in a single look. Does it work, though?? I’m totally convinced it does…and it’s an awesome way to keep a quiet colour palette like these greys and beiges from being a snore-fest. Have you ever done a major take on texture in your outfits, dear readers?? If not, have I convinced you to give it a try?? As always, I’m looking forward to reading your replies!! 😊
