Happy New Year: the prettiest NYE outfit for celebrating at home!

Don’t let that sunshine you see fool you – it was actually way too cold not to be wearing a coat today!!  So what’s a girl to do when she has the dreamiest, sparkliest, prettiest NYE outfit to show off but simply grin and bear it…and make sure to have a super cozy wrap waiting in the wings!!  Robin and I weren’t celebrating by “going out” per se – we had plans to ring in the New Year at home with our closest friends – but I’m always happy for an occasion that lets me “pull out all the stops” and get really dressed up!!

And I’m always looking for an excuse (any excuse!) to add a new outfit to my collection, too!!  I don’t need a whole bunch of special occasion dresses, of course – we don’t exactly live like the rich and famous around here! – but what’s the harm when the outfit in question costs less than what would likely be a merely mediocre dinner in some over-crowded restaurant??  While there are people who say it’s more important to spend your money on experiences rather than on “things”, I’m inclined to agree with Carrie Bradshaw and have mine right where I can see it…hanging in my closet!! 😉

Seriously though – this ensemble (which is actually a sheer number from Forever 21 that I’ve layered over a Zara red plaid slip dress) is the perfect solution for a house party; it’s as festive as it gets…but as comfortable as a pair of pj’s.  I love how those simple little spaghetti-strap dresses that where so popular in the 90’s have made a total fashion comeback; but let’s face it, they can be kinda chilly to wear in the middle of winter.  Adding this mesh maxi on top was just what the doctor ordered for a tiny bit more coverage…although I’d still recommend a coat if you’re going to be spending any time outdoors!! 😁

Found your post on Catherine’s blog and I had to come over and tell you how much I love this outfit. Such a girly punk/grunge look that is fabulous! That was brilliant to layer the sheer sparkly maxi over the red plaid. It’s a very eyecatching combination. Must steal this idea! And the boots add the perfect finishing touch.

It’s been bloomin’ freezing here today, & I had no fun taking my shots today. Funny how things carry on going in the wrong direction when weather is involved! Love this outfit and it’s nice to find your blog.
