Old vs New: How I repeat wardrobe items in outfit combinations

One of my much appreciated regular visitors (hi there, Rachel!) recently commented that she really enjoys seeing how I repeat wardrobe items in my outfit combinations from week to week. 😊  Of course I’m hoping she’s not the only one, because – let’s face it – most of us don’t have the kind of budget that allows for a never-ending supply of brand-new stuff coming into our closets.

Even if you love, love, love shopping as much as I do (although I’ve taken a bit of a break when it comes to buying for myself, I’m sure I’ll be back in fine form very soon!) I don’t think “all new pieces all the time” would be as great as it maybe sounds at first.  I talk a lot about having favourites that I can’t imagine doing without; and even if finding new favourites was an everyday kind of thing, that certainly doesn’t mean I’d be willing to give up, for example, my “cool girl” striped suit jacket, perfectly fitting flare jeans, and soft and slouchy mohair beanie – snap! – just like that!! 😟

So I expect that you can always expect to find a nice mix of “old” and new pieces around here, dear readers!!  And because I focus on personal style inspiration, when I feature something new that I’ve purchased, I don’t usually bother to provide shopping links, either.  I’d like to believe that you enjoy getting outfit ideas from the combos I put together…but that you don’t actually want to create carbon copies of my looks.  ‘Cause honestly??  Where’s the fun in that?!

And if you’re a fan of the tone-on-tone colour story I’ve got going on today, you’ll want to visit High Latitude Style, where my friend Nicole has a special edition post featuring 7 bloggers’ secrets for styling great ensembles using neutrals.  You might see a familiar face or two, as well!! 😉

Yep, I agree I like to mx old with new items. Although it’s nice to have a whole brand new outfit, but that’s normally for any special occasion I have. Super photos and it’s nice to find your blog. Visiting from Fun Fashion Friday. Jacqui

So lovely of you to visit, dear Jacqui!! I’m with you on the “whole new outfit” for a special occasion; every once in a while we DO need to splurge a little, am I right?! 👍

When you’re as many years young as I am, and you’ve got a lot of items in your collection to build outfits from even if you semi-regularly try to get rid of things that no longer suit you, it truly is a fun, creative process to see if you can combine pieces in an original way almost every time you get dressed. That said, there are some combinations I love so much I return to them many times. At this point I don’t actually shop much, unless I’ve discerned that a particular piece would give me great new opportunities to build outfits.

Your fantastic outfits always inspire new ideas for me, Monika! Thanks so much for that!

I especially love the items that I hasn’t worn in a long time. When I put them on it feels like new, and I think to myself: why am I wearing this not that often? Those are the best!

Aw. Thanks for the shout out! That jacket happens to be one of my favorites so I like seeing how you rotate that one in.
