Braveheart: styling a warm and woolly maxi skirt with a tunic sweater and moto vest

Even though there’s still snow to be seen in these pics, the truly frigid temperatures Vancouver was dealing with a week ago had mellowed just enough today for me to brave wearing a skirt…albeit a warm and woolly maxi skirt!!

It probably wouldn’t be a stretch to call me the “queen of jeans”; but as I’ve said before – every once in a while I do feel the need to switch it up a little, since even my most favourite pieces would get stale if I wore them all the time.  So no denim today; instead, I layered my olive wool-blend tunic sweater over that full-length skirt, added a leather-look moto vest for another element of coziness and textural interest…and topped everything off with even more wool in the form of a felted military-style cap.

And I would have been perfectly fine – bare legs and all! – if all we had on our agenda was an afternoon at Chapters; but I neglected to consider that we’d be stopping for a photo-op on a rather breezy hillside beforehand.  Actually, that’s not entirely true – getting new outfit pictures is never very far from my mind.  It’s just that on some days I’m a bit more willing to tough out twenty minutes of literal “chill time” to get them done!!

So yes – this afternoon I felt daring enough to step out of my comfort (aka “I-need-to-be-warm”) zone and challenge the elements a little.  Maybe it’s because we’ve finally left February in the dust…and that means spring is officially a mere three weeks away!!  Robin and I  know we have a way to go yet, but we already can’t stop talking about another season spent cruising around town in our convertible Solstice.  Woohoo!!

Now it’s your turn, dear readers!!  With winter (hopefully) in that proverbial rearview mirror, what are you dreaming about and looking forward to as the weather starts warming up??  I hope you’ll take a moment to share!!

Wow, that is a gorgeous skirt–the whole outfit is great! You are the Queen of Jeans but its also good to see you in something like this too.

We actually are having what I presume to be our final cold snap down here. While I do look forward to warmer days–especially because the arm I managed to break last week will be way easier to deal with when I can dress in tees and tanks–down here in Arizona, we want to hold onto every shred of coolness as long as possible, The brutal heat summer lasts almost half the year. Over time I have found ways to dress a bit more creatively in the hot weather, but its still a WIP!

Your broke your arm?? Oh no!! I still remember how miserable I was when I broke my foot four years ago, dearest Linda; the cast I had to wear for five looong weeks might just as well have been a straitjacket!! I wish you an exceptionally speedy recovery…and weather that will neither have you struggling with sleeves nor sweating under that horrible plaster!! 😘

Thanks so much, dear! It is a trial but not nearly as hard as when I had a bike crash about a year and a half and had a bad concussion and multiple broken bones! Really I am not as clumsy as all this makes me sound! Just a few incidents… There are occasional hazards to being physically active. I am already able to be back to running and this makes me happy. Not the bike yet though.

The vest did a nice job of visually breaking up the outfit a bit. It might have come across as long and draggy and almost implying you have something to hide. Well done.

I admit I got a chill from that glimpse of bare leg. I’m far from retiring the stockings in my neck of the woods, even though it’s unseasonably warm (I’m pessimistic and I’m sure we’re due for more snow in the next month and probably a lot of chilly, rainy days until May). I think that may be what I am looking forward to the most is wearing my skirts and dresses with bare legs. I love my summer dresses.

Nothing says “summer” quite like a pretty sundress, dearest Rachel!! 👍 Although I DO admit to wearing my jeans a fair bit during the warmest months of the year as well…but we have so many more options when the temperatures rise, am I right?? As for this knit maxi skirt – I thought about doing tights underneath for about one second; but showing a little flash of skin won out. I don’t call myself a “fearless fashionista” for nothing!! 😂

Stunning combination of army green and burgundy and I just love that bag! Is it velvet? I’ve been loving everything velvet this winter, especially in this color 🙂

I love olive and burgundy together! Your hat and moto vest are fabulous, and your hair colour is amazing! I’m looking forward to wearing jackets instead of coats, and pretty shoes 🙂
