Tripping up: chambray shirt, white cropped jeans, plaid wool cardi-coat, and baker boy cap

My visit to Toronto is just over a week away, dear readers – I leave on May 11th – which means I’ve started my pretty predictable pre-trip panic.  Is it the flight I’m worried about??  Not at all; aside from the airport security chaos, I actually quite enjoy flying.  The biggest issue for me when it comes to travelling is always “what on earth am I going to pack”?? 😱

This probably seems – at least initially – to be a rather unusual issue for a personal style blogger to be struggling with; after all, I’ve had plenty of practice putting together hundreds of outfits over the years!!  But the thing is, when I’m here at home I have my entire closet to pull from – which means that I can edit my ensemble at a moment’s notice.  When I’ve packed for a trip, however, I’ve committed to a much more limited wardrobe selection…and therein lies the rub.  What if the weather isn’t what I’m expecting, and I’m stuck with too many sweaters and not enough skirts??  Or even worse – what if I simply change my mind??

Such a ridiculous #firstworldproblem to have, I know – I’m actually poking a little fun at myself with this post.  After all, just a short time ago, I was struggling with a way more legitimate fear regarding my health.  And since my photographer (aka my amazing hubby!) won’t be coming with me on this trip, it’s not as if any of my outfit choices will even be documented…so what the heck am I stressing about??

Still – no fashionista worth her fleur de sel would want to look less than fab for the family, am I right?!  Which means that I’ll be spending a sizeable chunk of the upcoming weekend getting all my “vacation wardrobe” ducks in a row!!  What do you think – have I got a couple of contenders with my chambray shirt, white cropped jeans, plaid wool cardi-coat, and baker boy cap??  You’ll want to get your votes in while you can!! 😉

I laughed when I read about your panic about changing my mind. I feel better about my own packing neuroses now. Sometimes when fashion bloggers show off their capsule wardrobes for vacation I feel it’s not only too perfect, but it also assumes a lot. What if the weather is too cold for those shorts or too hot for that sweater? What if something gets too dirty or sweaty to wear again, or you spill something on it and can’t wear it again? Do we just assume when we pack that there are laundry facilities available? I’m always overpacking because I feel I need “backup”. I end up wearing all of the stuff I take with me regardless.

I have had my lightweight plaid coat put away for weeks because it was never warm enough to wear it. One day it was finally warm enough. Now it’s too hot! I hope you get more use out of that great coat than I got out of mine.

Monika, Really like how you styled this outfit,👍 like the sunglasses and baker boy hat together. Can’t go wrong with a chambray shirt and white jeans, they can be worn independently in so many ways, definite contender for your trip? Have a great time with your family 😃

I get stressed too about packing! I worry I’ll foget something important or not have the correct clothes for the weather—be definitely done that before. (It’s hard to pack for other, cooler places when it’s sooo hot here in the desert.)

If it’s any help, what I’ve learned is to create capsule-like wardrobes around my favorite colors to wear: black, white, grey, and shades of indigo. And then add a few other”pops of color.” I bet you know this strategy already!

You are beautiful no matter what you wear!

I have the same in two weeks! And I cannot pack enough, read shoes, I know that already. The problem with me is that when I pack I think, yeah that is a nice outfit and that one too. But when I’m on my destination I think, why the hell did I pack that! Ha ha, oh what a problems right😂😂😂😂
