Hurdles: flare jeans, leopard-patterned blouse, plaid sweater-coat, and felt fedora

We’ve all had that somewhat disheartening feeling before, I’m sure – that life is nothing but an endless obstacle course with hurdles continuously popping up along the way to challenge our contentment and peace of mind.

After the health scare I had only a few short months ago, Robin and I are now faced with an altogether different – but no less distressing – issue.  He lost his job last week.  Certainly not the end of the world; but still a pretty scary situation when there are mortgage and insurance payments to be made, utility bills to cover, and groceries to buy…and suddenly only one (modest) income to cover all those various necessities.

Robin is nothing if not a resourceful guy; but to say that finding another job – potentially even another career – when you’re beyond your thirties is rather, um, stressful??  Well, that might be the understatement of the year.  Especially when, for the past seven years, you’ve been lucky enough to work from home…thereby avoiding all the extra expenses, the hassles, and the time wasted with a daily commute.

Our focus right now, in addition to the obvious job hunt and all the must-do stuff that it always entails (resumé writing, networking) has been to keep each other’s spirits up with small indulgences like a horror movie binge on Netflix – at least we’re not being mowed down by a machete-wielding maniac! – and countryside drives in our Solstice convertible.  No “recreational” shopping, though; and I’m trying hard to curb my soy chai latte addiction just a bit…albeit without much success, considering the circumstances!! 😉

So you probably won’t be seeing a whole lot of new pieces showing up here for the next little while, dear readers; but that doesn’t mean that I intend to let my look slide by schlumping around in sweatpants!!  These flare jeans, for example, may have had their debut only two weeks ago…but I was already inspired to style them again with my leopard-patterned blouse, plaid sweater-coat, and felt fedora.  And since I got a rave review from the Starbucks barista when we stopped in for an afternoon pick-me-up, I shall take that as proof that I haven’t lost my OOTD mojo quite yet!! 😊

Sending love and all the best wishes for Robin finding a fabulous new job in the shortest amount of time possible. And my ardent hopes that you will be able to keep your spirits up!!!!!

Sometimes we get big darn curve balls thrown at us. Happens in some way to everyone but that doesn’t make it easier.

I find that holding on to beloved parts of daily life — like creating beautiful and/or fun outfits out of things in my closet every morning—is a great way to steady myself in challenging times.

    Big hugs to you both!
    Linda

Aww – thank you SO much for keeping us in your thoughts, dearest Linda!! Having wonderful online friends like you goes a long way to maintaining my spirits, too; even if I don’t always have a chance to respond to your lovely notes, please know that I ALWAYS appreciate the time you take to stay in touch!! XOXO

So sorry that happened! Sending as many good vibes and wishes for something new as I can possibly send

I’m not worried about not seeing any new articles of clothing. I know I will see you wear what you have in more creative ways. That’s what we come here to see.

Re-styling a wardrobe in different ways is definitely more realistic for most of us than simply showing off new stuff every week, isn’t it dearest Rachel?? A HUGE thanks for being one of my very loyal visitors – and commenters! – you make this blogging thing especially fun…and just the distraction I need during times like this!! 💋
