The Solstice has been picked up from the auto repair shop, travel insurance has been purchased, and currency has been exchanged; it’s a done deal, dear readers!! We are on our way to Oregon first thing tomorrow morning…woohoo!! 🎉
I’d be lying if I said that Robin and I weren’t still second-guessing ourselves somewhat about the financial wisdom of taking a mini-vacation when he just recently lost his job…and now with this additional expense of a vehicle repair as icing on the calamity cake. (Okay, “calamity” is probably a bit of an exaggeration…but you get the picture!)
In the end, however, we agreed that we really, really needed a getaway from all the sh*t that we’ve been dealing with over the past several weeks; just a couple of days to escape reality and enjoy the wind blowing in our hair and the sun shining in our faces.
Life is short and the future a great unknown – a fact that we are all reminded of whenever we turn on our televisions or computers (or maybe unfold a newspaper?) to catch up with the events of a day here on planet earth. Sometimes we simply need to “carpe that diem” and go for it; as one of my lovely regular visitors (hi Linda!) was kind enough to remind me, it’s usually those things we didn’t do that we end up regretting the most.
And to make our road trip a genuine escape – and also because the trunk space in our convertible is truly almost non-existent – I’ve decided to leave my laptop and iPad at home. Even my cell phone will stay in airplane mode for the duration of our time away; I’m bringing it along “in case of emergency” only. Keep an eye on my Instagram account, though…no promises, but I might find the time to post a travel pic or two!!
