We humans certainly seem to find change a challenge, don’t we?? Not always, of course…but I believe most of us struggle at least to some degree when change comes into our lives; especially when it feels like it’s something that’s happening to us rather than something we’ve chosen for ourselves.
Robin and I are definitely dealing with that scenario right now. After the luxury of working 9 to 5 from the comfort of our condo for seven years, my hubby now needs to get used to commuting to his job…and working an afternoon shift that doesn’t get him home until well after midnight. And I have to get used to seeing him for barely an hour every weekday…because I’m in bed and asleep well before he gets back each night. That’s quite an adjustment for both of us!!
In the end, though, I think it’s our perspective on change that helps – or hinders – how well we end up dealing with it. Sure – change that happens because of something beyond our control (like Robin’s boss deciding to close down the company) can be unpleasant…but it often creates a domino-effect of opportunity to make other changes that we can control. So why not take advantage?? (I’ve already been turning all that evening “alone time” into an exercise in self-improvement by flicking on the TV less frequently and picking up a book instead!!)
And since we’re on the topic of opportunity – and because this is a personal style blog after all! – there’s obviously no better time than now to show you my latest footwear acquisition – these crazy-cool combat-inspired booties from Jeffrey Campbell!! While the end of summer is yet another change I’m not especially excited about, planning to zhuzh up my all-black-everything winter outfits with a bit of studded and embroidered awesomeness?? That’s making lemonade out of lemons, am I right?! 😉
